So he composed Don Carlos first in French, and he  also had to deliver a ballet. Ballo della regina is kept as an interlude in the third act of the opera, which premiered on 11 March 1865 at  Opéra National de Paris. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned by  Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg.
