Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534583 Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. 21 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #4727479. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534583). Preface:In the early 1890s, Debussy composed the opening of a lyrical piece in E major for violin and piano, perhaps as a shorter companion piece for the violin Nocturne he was planning for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. After Debussy’s death in 1918, his second wife Emma often gave away sketch pages to performers or composers as memorials to her beloved husband , and this particular page was given to the Cuban born pianist and composer Joaquin Nin (1879-1949). It came up for sale in the catalogue of the British antiquarian dealer Lisa Cox in 2010 and although it might possibly be an early song for contralto and piano, the more dynamic idea in bar 12 strongly suggests the violin, especially as it begins on an open D string. Moreover, there is no text and in pieces of this length, Debussy usually wrote at least one word in, if only to remind himself where he had got to in any song. So my starting point was a complete 12-bar melody gently undulating in the violin’s lowest register over a sensual accompaniment, rising to a climax in bar 12 and giving me a contrasting idea that I could use as a link between sections and in the cadenza. As the B section (bars 14-26) derives directly from Debussy’s opening theme by metamorphosis, my own additions were restricted to the central section (bars 27-57) - comprising a new scherzando idea (C) and the more lyrical D (bars 36-46). C returns at bar 47, followed by the opening sections in reverse order, so that the Sérénade begins and ends with Debussy’s material and is cast in arch form (ABCDCBA). Robert OrledgeBrighton, 19 June 2019Robert Orledge was born in Bath in 1948 and educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he gained his doctorate for his study of the composer Charles KÅ“chlin in 1973.   Between 1971 and 1991 He rose from Lecturer to Professor in the Music Department of the University of Liverpool, publishing books on Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Charles KÅ“chlin and Erik Satie, as well as numerous articles, editions and reviews.   As a historical musicologist, Professor Orledge specialized in the way composers composed, ,and since taking early retirement in 2004, he has concentrated on completing and orchestrating Debussy’s unfinished works, and especially his theatre projects. His completion of Debussy’s opera The Fall of the House of Usher (1908-17) was successfully premiered at the Bregenz Opera Festival in Austria in August 2006 and has since been performed in America, Portugal Germany and Holland, as well as being broadcast throughout Europe. A DVD of the Bregenz premier is available on Capriccio 93517, produced by Phylida Lloyd and conducted by Lawrence Foster. His completion of the Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence (1914) was also premiered in 2006 in Los Angeles and other completions include La Saulaie and the Nocturne and Poème for violin and orchestra as well as Debussy’s other Poe opera Le Diable dans le Beffroi.

Small Ensemble Double Bass,High Voice,Piano,Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976037 Composed by Lior Navok. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 18 pages. Lior Navok Music #4719307. Published by Lior Navok Music (A0.976037). THE SEA OF SUNSETfor Soprano, Trombone, Double Bass and Piano (1997) DURATION: 8 Minutes POEM BY: Emily Dickinson PROGRAM NOTES: The composer writes about his work: The poems of Emily Dickinson are very unique work of art. Most of her poems are full with detailed descriptions, transferring the poems to a medium of picture, carefully painted and calculated. Yet, it is quiet amazing that these poems came from the hand of a woman who lived secluded life, in her hometown Amherst, Massachusetts. A clue may be finds in one of Dickinson's saying: To shut our eyes is to travel. As I approached Dickinson's poems (which are close to 2000), I found that most of them, even the short ones, are built into a large space. Each poem needs its development time and cannot be rushed or squeezed to a regular song form. In The Sea of Sunset, I have let the words, the nature description, and the lazy mood of the poem take me to the picture medium. Adding the murmur of the sea, and the whisper of the wind, I tried to get as close as possible to the picture I saw through the poem. David Warin Solomons #723318. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1122168). Many years before Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats I created my own setting of TS Eliot's Song of the Jellicles (from Old Possum's book of practical cats). Originally it was intended for choir, but the estate of T S Eliot would not let me use the poem itself as a choral piece. However, they did allow me to use the word Jellicle in my instrumental titles. Each version follows the rhythms of the T S Eliot poem. Performers: The Budapest wind quartet, comprising Flute: Ildikó Szabady Oboe: Márton Belek Clarinet: Hunor Egyed Bassoon: Kristóf Szilágyi.

As the melody soars and mixes in triplets, there are surprising twists into a new swelling middle section. Perfect for the next recital or festival, this piece will challenge your student to bring out the beautiful melody while listening to the quieter lines beneath it.

When I Was One-and-Twenty (A. E. Housman) II. For An Amorous Lady (Theodore Roethke) III. Love Me Not for Comely Grace (John Wilbye) IV. So Let Us Live - Really Live! (Gaius Valerius Catullus) The four love songs that that constitute So Let Us Live – Really Live! were commissioned by John Goodman in honor of his wife Kerry King’s fiftieth birthday. The set – with its (relatively) light poetry and (excessively) tonal settings - was originally intended as Hausmusik (house music), music to be performed privately among (semi-inebriated) friends. However, certain personal events that occurred during their composition have compelled me to go public with them, and thus, with John and Kerry’s indulgence, they are receiving their premiere here, rather than in a living room. A thousand-and-one thanks to Allen Shearer’s wonderful voice and Lino Rivera’s exquisite hands, which were constantly in my mind’s ear during the composition of the songs. With love to Kerry, from John and Bob. All poems used by permission.

Peet du Toit #6197719. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802649). Don't Forget to Remember also called Don't Forget to Remember Me is a country ballad recorded by the Bee Gees, from the album Cucumber Castle. The song was written by Barry and Maurice Gibb. It was produced by the band with Robert Stigwood. The song features Barry Gibb singing at a lower pitch than usual. The song's lyrics follow the country-song tradition of romantic laments with its tearful first-person lyrics about a man haunted by a failed love affair he can't put out of his mind. Its melody matches the yearning quality of the lyrics, especially on the chorus, which underpins the forlorn wish Don't forget to remember me/And the love that used to be with glorious runs of ascending notes. The ascending notes in this version are the high-pitched notes for the French horn, the cries of an ex-lover. Enjoy!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841363 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn, Samuel Arnold, and William H. Cummings. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #6098159. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841363). This year's Christmas publication choice fell on a song very dear to me: Hark! The herald angels sing. The text, inspired by Luke’s Gospel (2:14), appears for the first time in a collection of Christmas carols called Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1739, jointly written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788 ) and George Whitefield (1714-1770), two of the founding members of the Methodist movement. The version we know today is the one adapted by William H. Cummings (1831-1915) from the section Vaterland, in deinen Gauen of the Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest, WoO 9, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847). The story, however, is more complex and articulated than that. The original version of the text, written by Wesley, bearing the title Hymn for Christmas-Day, had received only slow and solemn music for its verses, music now almost completely discarded. Also, his original opening lines were Hark! How all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings .The version that has been passed to us is the result of alterations made by different hands, especially those of Whitefield, who changed the initial couplet into the one we know today. In 1840-one hundred years after the publication of Hymns and sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata commemorating Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable-type printing. The English musician William H. Cummings finally adapted Mendelssohn’s music around 1855 in order to fit the music to the verses and give it its present look.In this edition we propose the version that every listener expects to hear when reading the title on the programme and, immediately after, one of the few original versions that have reached us in their entirety, that is the one set to music by Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) and available today in The British Minstrel, and Musical and Literary Miscellany, vol. 3, published in 1843.The proposed instrumentations are those of the classical string quartet and the cello quartet. Both variants are very simple to perform and are certainly suitable for small string ensembles formed in musical schools. In the cello quartet version, the only relatively complex part is that of the first cello, which should be left to the teacher or to a student able to play up to the 7th position without excessive troubles.I hope this music can bring you the serenity that made me prepare it.
