French Horn Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912493 Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. Classical,Contemporary. Individual part. 1 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #3877231. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912493). Written in two movements for trumpet, horn in F and organ, the work starts with a slower introduction that is written in the key of B major, the dominant key of E major. Moreover, the first movement has imitative passages that are present in all the three instruments. Following the first movement that is written in the 4/4 time, the next movement, composed in the 6/8 time and in E major, is performed gracefully in a style of a pastorale. Like the previous movement, the second part is contrapuntal but it differs in its extensive use of the dialogue between the horn and trumpet. In performing the sonata, there should be balance among the brass instruments and the organ in regard to sound intensity and the speed. The trumpet tends to overpower the horn in passages marked f or louder, and the organist may adjust the registrations to keep the sound from overpowering the other two instruments. If this piece were to be performed in large concert halls or churches, the time that takes air to leave the organ chest to the pipes may be longer. Choice of speed should be rehearsed carefully. The organ registration itself is merely a suggestion and should not be taken too literally due to the design of the organ and the acoustics of the hall or church. Sonata For Trumpet, Horn And Organ is suitable for concert use. This work may be performed at any time of the year, especially Christmas, Post-Easter and general use.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335323 Composed by Kendra Brown. 21st Century. 26 pages. Kendra Brown #921147. Published by Kendra Brown (A0.1335323). The main theme is inspired by the introduction of the piece. Delicate and child-like. The ostinato in the beginning of the piece that double reeds have displays the feeling of a “child-like†waltz. The pattern is in 3 but it should be played as if it is in 6/8, with emphasis on beats 1 and 3. There should be weight to the sound but it should not be heavy. Sometimes in life, (as both teens and adults) we tend to get caught up in stress or worries and we forget to take a break, relax and destress a little. This piece reminds us to go back to our childlike roots. As the theme in Section A expands, it takes a turn in Section B where the tempo picks up. (Players are encouraged to have as much fun as they can with this part.) At and after the exposed bassoon part at m.50, in the words of my old high school band director, “Let it rip potato chip!†(Meaning give it all you’ve got and have fun). Brass are encouraged to play the dynamics as written in this section but listen to each other. Section C is a bridge to the 7/8 in Section D. Section D, reintroduces the theme in the form of a trumpet solo while brass and some of the woodwinds have the ostinato. Be careful euphonium & tuba because you’re missing a beat on purpose! Section E is the “Medley†of all the parts that were previously played with only tuba playing in the relative minor so it sticks out at the bottom of the ensemble. This is symbolic of the piece itself, showing that the pressures of life can be overcome by keeping a good attitude and persevering through those tough times that you encounter. Section F is another “bridge†beginning with the flute solo reiterating the theme one last time before the “descent and climb†(starting at m.137) to the final destination: Section G. Section G should be played like an overture. Full and with joy and a “coming alive-ness†to it therefore bringing life to the once dead emotions that once were. The ending with the oboe/bassoon duet should be played as quietly as possible & as in tune as possible.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1088119 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical. 12 pages. RayThompsonMusic #692364. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1088119). Arranged wind quintet. Horn Part in Bb basso ( same as Beethoven's )(alt Hn in F part provided) The Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93 is a symphony in four movements composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1812. Beethoven fondly referred to it as my little Symphony in F, distinguishing it from his Sixth Symphony, a longer work also in F.[1] The Eighth Symphony is generally light-hearted, though not lightweight, and in many places cheerfully loud, with many accented notes. Various passages in the symphony are heard by some listeners to be musical jokes. As with various other Beethoven works such as the Opus 27 piano sonatas and the later Ninth Symphony, the symphony deviates from Classical tradition in making the last movement the weightiest of the four. This is my arrangement of the 2nd mvt. There is a widespread belief that this movement is an affectionate parody of the metronome, which had only recently been invented (or more accurately, merely improved) by Beethoven's friend, Johann Maelzel. Specifically the belief was that the movement was based on a canon called Ta ta ta... Lieber Maelzel, WoO 162, said to have been improvised at a dinner party in Maelzel's honor in 1812. However, there is no evidence corroborating this story and it is likely that WoO 162 was not written by Beethoven but was constructed after-the-fact by Anton Schindler. A more likely inspiration was the similar rhythmic parody of Joseph Haydn's Clock Symphony. The metronome-like parody starts at the very beginning of the movement with even staccato chords in 16th-notes (semiquavers). This basic 16th-note rhythm continues fairly steadily through the piece. The tempo is unusually fast for a symphonic slow movement. Richard Wagner has argued that the third movement was intended as the slow movement of this symphony and that the second should be played as a scherzo.

Saxophone Quintet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1255318 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Easter,Historic. 29 pages. Regis Bookshar #848835. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1255318). Three selections based on Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in death's bonds) (from Cantata No.   4, BMV   4) - Johann Sebastian Bach - Saxophone Quintet (3 Altos, 2 Tenors) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download.Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (also spelled Todes Banden) (Christ lay in death's bonds) is a cantata for Easter written by Johann Sebastian Bach and is his earliest surviving Church Cantata. It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement gets more complex that the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.   4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1718 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in in the middle of his Cantata No.   4.This arrangement is for a Saxophone Quintet, consisting of 3 Alto Saxophones and 2 Tenor Saxophones. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118521 Composed by Howard Blake. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Christmas,Film/TV. Score and parts. 53 pages. Kevin Riley #720042. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1118521). Walking in the Air is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. The story relates the fleeting adventures of a young boy and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. Walking in the Air is the theme for the journey. They attend a party of snowmen, at which the boy seems to be the only human until they meet Father Christmas with his reindeer, and the boy is given a scarf with a snowman pattern. In the film, the song was performed by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty, and reissued in 1985 (on Stiff Records) and 1987. In 1985, an altered version was recorded for use in a TV advertising campaign for Toys R Us. As Auty's voice had then broken, Blake recommended the then-14-year-old Welsh chorister Aled Jones, whose recording reached number five in the UK Singles Chart, and who became a popular celebrity on the strength of his performance. The association of the song with Jones, combined with Auty not being credited on The Snowman, led to a common misbelief that Jones performed the song in the film. Walking in the Air has subsequently been performed by over forty artists, in a variety of styles. In a UK poll in 2012, the Aled Jones version was voted 13th on the ITV television special The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song.

Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890713 Composed by John Pitts. Baroque,Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 20 pages. Intensely Pleasant Music #3424723. Published by Intensely Pleasant Music (A0.890713). Passacaglia (2000-2012) for Organ - 6 minutes  This piece exists in versions for organ (this one - the original version in 2000) and orchestra (performed by Bristol University Symphony Orchestra under the baton of John Pickard in 2001), and finally a piano duet version completed in 2012.   The theme is based on the ground bass from Bach’s stonking Passacaglia in C minor for organ. However, the implied harmonies of Bach’s original ground bass are treated to some twisted harmonies – where each chord is altered using a system of harmonic substitution - swapping each chord implication for a newly chosen one (Cm=C, Fm=F#, G=A, Dm=A¨, Eb=F and on it goes around the 12 chromatic notes).  Each key therefore has a ‘dominant’ and ‘subdominant’ that are not the actual chords V and IV in that key, so the traditional cadences and chord relationships are supplanted by 12 individual 3-chord relationships – one set of three chords for each of the 12 (now almost exclusively major) keys. In an attempt to recreate the pulls of the traditional tonic-dominant-subdominant relationships, each key then also has a particular mode/scale with particular added notes that are designed to recreate the sense of moving away from and back towards the home chord of that key. This results in a lot of rich added harmonies and some idiomatic voice-leading. Bach’s original theme in Cm is: C G - E¨ F - G A¨  - F G - D E¨ - B C -   F G   - C, and in the opening statement of the ground bass this has become: C A - E F# - A B¨ - F# A - D# E - C# C - F# A - C. There are then 21 variations which modulate through a range of keys, during which the ground bass is constantly re-adjusted to fit the new harmonic areas. It starts in C major, then goes through ‘closely’ related keys (eg A major and A¨ major), and then back to C in variations 6, 9 and 11. This kind of arch then happens again but going through more distant keys before returning to C in variations 18, 19 and the final climactic variation 21. Leaving aside the structural and tonal nuts and bolts, my aim was to compose a piece that attempts to recapture some of the nobility and beauty of Bach's Passacaglia, with rich added note harmonies, and exuding an exuberant joy.

Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818358). ♫The Good Physician with There’s a Balm in Gilead - Soprano, Alto, and Baritone arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫Balm in Gilead (in this arrangement) is NOT the well-known negro spiritual (There is a Balm in Gilead). This is evidently an earlier song with some similar words in the refrain. The Good Physician was published in the shape note hymnal, The Southern Harmony and Music Companion as early as 1835. Balm in Gilead was published in The Revivalist as early as 1868. Both of these songs were collected by their publishers and the lack of a listed composer shows their apparent age. ♫ The Good Physician has 4 verses with no refrain. Balm in Gilead has 4 verses with a refrain. ♫ Music and hymn singing was an important catalyst in both the First Great Awakening (1730 to about 1755 in colonial America) and the Second Great Awakening (1790-1840 in the American frontier of the time.) The arranger tried to achieve a frontier-like setting for the arrangement, going so far as to set The Good Physician in the mixolydian mode. ♫ This edition includes 3 files 1) the full score 2) vocal parts 3) smaller size suitable loading onto a 10 inch tablet.

Sweetwater Brass Press #707372. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1104138).       Howard W. Petrie was a composer of popular music active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of his most popular songs was “I Don’t Want to Play in Your Yard,†published early in his career, 1894. The song underwent a revival in the mid-1950s when Peggy Lee recorded it. It also figured prominently in the popular 1981 film Reds. Lyrics are credited to Philip Wingate, and his first verse sets up the story. Two little girls were next-door neighbors and best of friends. One day, however, a quarrel arose and “hot tears were shared.†One announced, “You can’t play in our yard.†The reply of the other forms the familiar chorus: I don't want to play in your yard, I don't like you any more, You'll be sorry when you see me sliding down our cellar door, You can't holler down our rain-barrel, you can't climb our apple tree, I don't want to play in your yard, if you won't be good to me.       The second verse tells of the reconciliation. The two girls miss each other. They kiss and make up and remain friends “all thro’ life.†But “in sweet dreams of childhood†we still remember the controversy of the yard.       This version features the group's Trumpets somewhat taking the roles of the two little girls. It retains the F major key in which it was written, changes tempo four times (in addition to a few rallentando/a tempo instructions) and includes two short, rather simple cadenzas, one for each Trumpet. It starts (rather incongruously!) with the eight 4/4 measures of “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary†then transitions to ¾ for the remainder of the piece.       Trumpets predominate with melody and lead. However Horn and Trombone do occasionally come to the fore to provide introductions, call-and-response figures and recapitulations. Both Trumpets play a few notes above their staff—G# and A—but for the most part, all instruments perform within their normal playing range. Performance time is about three and a half minutes to perform.       Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 34 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).
