C Instrument - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1487192 By Bill Perkins. By Dorothy Parker and Ralph Rainger. Arranged by John Fries. 20th Century,Jazz,Standards. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 1 pages. John Fries #1064163. Published by John Fries (A0.1487192). TYPE JOHN FRIES IN THE SEARCH BAR TO SEE ALL I HAVE TO OFFER. Thanks, John. I Wished on the Moon is a song composed by Ralph Rainger, with lyrics by Dorothy Parker. Bing Crosby sang the song in The Big Broadcast of 1936.Crosby recorded the song on August 14, 1935 with The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra and it reached the charts of the day peaking at No. 2 during a seven-week stay. At the end of the long recording session, Crosby decided to sing only a single chorus of the song in the middle of an orchestral version instead of the full ballad treatment used in the film. This led to a long argument between the singer and producer Jack Kapp. Eventually Crosby prevailed. Crosby recorded the song again in 1954 for his album Bing: A Musical Autobiography.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811705 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Pat Spence. Classical,Concert. 84 pages. Piper Publications #4366124. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811705). The string quartet is the second of three that Mozart wrote in 1790 for Friedrich Wilhelm  II, King of Prussia, who was clearly a very good amateur cellist. There are four movements, Allegro, Larghetto, Minuetto and Allegro assai and the style and scale is very similar to that of the contemporary quartets by Joseph Haydn. This arrangement is suitable for advanced players. In arranging this for woodwind quartet, it has been necessary to re-distribute the parts to reflect the different characteristics of each of the wind instruments. For example, the interplay between the violins which are effectively interchangeable would not always work so well between the flute and oboe. The original makes extensive use of the high range of the cello which is frequently above the range of the bassoon and has sometimes been transposed down an octave or given to the clarinet. The phrasing has been adapted to be more suitable for the wind instruments and players should feel free to make further adaptations - particularly with the addition of slurs or staccato. I have been restrained in the addition of slurs as adding too many may have an adverse effect on breath control - a staccato passage uses less breath.

RayThompsonMusic #3506929. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553690). On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring is a tone poem composed in 1912 by Frederick Delius; it was first performed in Leipzig on 23 October 1913. It is the first of Two Pieces for Small Orchestra, the second piece being Summer Night on the River, although these have for many years existed separately on recordings and in the concert hall. The piece opens with a slow three-bar sequence; its first theme is an exchange of cuckoo calls. The second theme is  taken from a Norwegian folk song, In Ola Valley, which was brought to his attention by the Australian composer and folk-song arranger Percy Grainger. (The theme was also arranged by Edvard Grieg in his 19 Norwegian Folksongs, Op. 66.)The clarinet returns with the cuckoo calls before the piece ends in pastoral fashion.Arranged symphonic wind and contra bass/tuba.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1389302 Composed by Florence Beatrice Price. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Multicultural,World. 188 pages. John Ivor Holland #972867. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1389302). Born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1887, Florence Price received early musical training from her mother, going on to study at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1906 with a Soloist’s Diploma in Organ Performance, and a Teacher’s Diploma in Piano Performance. After completing her degree, Price returned back to the south to teach music and after about 20 years, moved her family moved to Chicago to ultimately escape the racial tension in the south. It was here that she was able to properly establish herself as a concert pianist, organist and composer. She composed over 300 works, including 20 full orchestral pieces and over 110 art songs, many performed by leading American orchestras and esteemed vocalists. Price was the first African-American woman composer to earn national recognition. Seen as a pioneer among women, she was celebrated constantly for her achievements. Composed in 1943, about 10 years before her death, 'The Oak' is an unpublished tone poem, perhaps more appropriately described as an 'orchestral essay', quite serious in tone and character. The foreboding opening slowly grows as more instruments enter the mix. The piece explores a number of different moods and atmospheres, from mysterious to more aggressive and irritated. Arranged for symphonic wind ensemble, 'The Oak' is a major contribution to the repertoire and deserves detailed attention - there are two different endings, the second, one that resolves quietly, is written in the score as 'the composer's preference'.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1461571 By Paul Simon. By Paul Simon. Arranged by Will Corbin. Latin,Pop. 22 pages. Will Corbin #1040315. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1461571). Here's a fun high-energy rendition of Paul Simon's 1980 hit. The original was rhythm-heavy with all kinds of drum activity; background horns fill in here, although you might want to bring along a couple of percussionist pals with a cowbell and other Afro-Latin-pop toys. The break strain was horns in the original. That part and the ending are tough; they require a very tight quintet. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help.
