The basic structure of each setting follows this pattern; A refrain is created from one of the verses in the Psalm. The refrain is sung first. Then the Cantor proceeds to chant the verses in traditional manner with the refrain inserted as the score indicates. With rehearsal time always a challenge, these Psalm Settings can be learned quickly, even with inexperienced singers, leaving more rehearsal time for preparing Offertory Anthems and other music.
