Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1088189 By Mykola Lysenko. By Mykola Lysenko. Arranged by Steven Nunes. Classical,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 125 pages. Nagamon Publications #692441. Published by Nagamon Publications (A0.1088189). Mykola Lysenko was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor and ethnomusicologist of the late Romantic period. In his time he was the central figure of Ukrainian music, with an oeuvre that includes operas, art songs, choral works, orchestral and chamber pieces, and a wide variety of solo piano music. He is often credited with founding a national music tradition during the Ukrainian national revival. Taras Bulba is an opera in four acts with a libretto by Mykhailo Starytsky (the composer's cousin) after the novel Taras Bulba by Nikolai Gogol. The story was about a Cossack who kills his son after he betrayed those fighting for their freedom. This enjoyable and tuneful overture uses several themes from the opera, and is in the vein of other late Romantic Eastern European music. This PDF includes the full score and parts ready for printing.

The three selected pieces were written before the publication of his clarinet method. They are expressive compositions, inspired by nature, of romantic spirit. For two of the pieces, Baermann has added short comments describing the character of the music. At the beginning of ‘An Evening on the Mountains’ he explains: ‘The added notes are intended purely as a guide for the performer, relating the feelings that I experienced with these little tone pictures’. Small Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1023334 Composed by Kristian S Rodriguez. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 15 pages. Kristian S. Rodriguez #5191591. Published by Kristian S. Rodriguez (A0.1023334). Five reed instruments play together, but the alto saxophone, knowing a world outside this classical-style reed quintet, chafes under the conformity and briefly plays a solo before returing to the fold. This alternation between the quintet playing together and the sax interrupting with a solo continues, causing tensions to boil. Both the ensemble sections and the solo sections become more chaotic, before the whole ensemble breaks from its constraints and begins playing in a bebop style. The oboe tries to restore order, however, and one by one, the other instruments other than the sax return to their initial classical-style playing, choosing to play the initial section in reverse. The sax, furious, rages at the other instruments to broaden their thinking, and in response, each instrument introduces its own, unique solo. The oboe is the last to join in the fun, but gives in at last, before all five instruments make one final outburst at the end of the piece.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.885227 Composed by Kathryn Ellis. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 85 pages. Ellis #3620131. Published by Ellis (A0.885227). East Texas, A Bear Hunt, the third of five movements from A Texas Symphony, is a musical illustration of an actual two day bear hunt that took place in 1906 in the Big Thicket. The hunting party consisted of 10 hunters led by Texas Legendary Hunters, Ben Lilly and Bud Hooks, and 8 hunting hounds. The music opens with a joyful fiddle theme representing nighttime around the campfire.  As the night falls, the music quietens and percussion instruments (cabasa and woodblock) introduce crickets, woodpeckers and nighttime sounds.  A rainstick and plucked strings bring the nighttime rain.  With the morning, ascending strings herald the sunrise, with solo woodwinds bringing birdsong.  The hunt theme is introduced by the brass.  The bear theme is played by the bassoon, who is surrounded by bees, played by dissonant strings.  As the hunt begins, the bear becomes alarmed, then the chase ensues.  The high point of the chase arrives with an orchestra hit.  The piece concludes with a triumphant return to the campsite. This fun piece is enjoyed by musicians and audiences for the fun melodies and unusual percussion sounds, length approx 12 minutes..
