Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.885227 Composed by Kathryn Ellis. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 85 pages. Ellis #3620131. Published by Ellis (A0.885227). East Texas, A Bear Hunt, the third of five movements from A Texas Symphony, is a musical illustration of an actual two day bear hunt that took place in 1906 in the Big Thicket. The hunting party consisted of 10 hunters led by Texas Legendary Hunters, Ben Lilly and Bud Hooks, and 8 hunting hounds. The music opens with a joyful fiddle theme representing nighttime around the campfire.  As the night falls, the music quietens and percussion instruments (cabasa and woodblock) introduce crickets, woodpeckers and nighttime sounds.  A rainstick and plucked strings bring the nighttime rain.  With the morning, ascending strings herald the sunrise, with solo woodwinds bringing birdsong.  The hunt theme is introduced by the brass.  The bear theme is played by the bassoon, who is surrounded by bees, played by dissonant strings.  As the hunt begins, the bear becomes alarmed, then the chase ensues.  The high point of the chase arrives with an orchestra hit.  The piece concludes with a triumphant return to the campsite. This fun piece is enjoyed by musicians and audiences for the fun melodies and unusual percussion sounds, length approx 12 minutes..

Small Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1023334 Composed by Kristian S Rodriguez. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 15 pages. Kristian S. Rodriguez #5191591. Published by Kristian S. Rodriguez (A0.1023334). Five reed instruments play together, but the alto saxophone, knowing a world outside this classical-style reed quintet, chafes under the conformity and briefly plays a solo before returing to the fold. This alternation between the quintet playing together and the sax interrupting with a solo continues, causing tensions to boil. Both the ensemble sections and the solo sections become more chaotic, before the whole ensemble breaks from its constraints and begins playing in a bebop style. The oboe tries to restore order, however, and one by one, the other instruments other than the sax return to their initial classical-style playing, choosing to play the initial section in reverse. The sax, furious, rages at the other instruments to broaden their thinking, and in response, each instrument introduces its own, unique solo. The oboe is the last to join in the fun, but gives in at last, before all five instruments make one final outburst at the end of the piece.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977024 Composed by Traditional Taiwanese Song. Arranged by Paul SanGregory (桑磊栢). A Cappella,Contemporary,Folk,World. Octavo. 11 pages. Distant Engraver Music #3533723. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977024). This lively and evocative a cappella arrangement was composed for a community choir in Taiwan and was premiered by them. This is that original version, but the song's lyrics have now been spelled out using the English alphabet, not Chinese characters. Short solo parts and some divisi are used in this SATB arrangement. The program note is as follows:The central image of this song is the steam train that used to travel the rout from Taipei to Ilan, Taiwan. Different meanings of this song's lyrics have been debated, but somebody once told me of possible references to dripping water within the tunnels along the train's rout. Taking these images as my starting point, I begin this arrangement with a perspective from inside one such tunnel. As the train approaches, the mood changes from still and quiet to energetic and active. The train then quickly passes and, as its whistle fades into the distance, the quiet sounds within the tunnel can once again be heard.
