WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT MOUNTAIN is a sermon song based on the sermon With Jesus on the Mountain delivered by Dr. Paul de Jong on November 12, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Florida using the text of Mark 8:31-9:29.  The tune is an SATB arrangement of the famous Christmas spiritual Go Tell it on the Mountain with original lyrics to teach about a very important event in the New Testament - Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguragtion.  The Chorus departs from the rhythm of the original spiritual when the name of Jesus is sung, emphasizing that He is on a different plane than Moses and Elijah.This and the second verse emphasize how Peter, as he often was, was in error of considering building temporal booths to celebrate the three transfigured beings.  What the voice from heaven says and what Jesus says are extremely important.  This may not overtake the popularity of the original Christmas spiritual, but I would hope that some congregations would consider using it as a teaching hymn.

After a transition from the key of F Major to E-Flat Major, the band divides into three groups to play the three-voiceround. The entire round is repeated twice, exhibiting a lengthy crescendo and eventual diminuendo caused by the threeinstrument groupings ending their voices in the round.Having students perform a simple, yet lyrical round provides for a variety of educational opportunities. With its debut in 1908 on Broadway in New York City, this pop standard from the Vaudeville show Ziegfried's Follies has been covered by such artists as Liza Minelli, Bing Crosby, and as late as 2017, by Indie folk singer Mree (Marie Hsiao).Shine on Harvest Moon also has a long association with Hollywood films such as Shine on Harvest Moon (1932 animation), a Roy Rogers' western, Pennies from Heaven, and the British comedy show Shine on Harvey Moon.  The song and dance duo of Laurel and Hardy also used the song.    This arrangement for Brass Sextet with optional percussion is a bit of a through back to the original setting, with a mix of the campy uptempo setting, then into the more melancholy style of someone scared of the dark, while their partner is trying to tell them, they are in love and should get married.  For the conversation to occur, the moon must shine.Harvest Moon refers to the Full Moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox (for 2023, which will be September 23rd).Instrumentation is for British Brass Band ensemble of two cornets, tenor horn, tenor trombone TC, Bb Euphonium, and Eb Bass.  Orchestral brass alternates are included.Duration 3:45   18 pages.

I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years. In addition, this tune is punctuated by the acclamation of In the Great Gettin' Up Morning, which celebrates waking up in heaven.This arrangement is an Intermediate Piano solo in the key of C major. Although particularly appropriate for Palm Sunday and Easter services, it will gladden the hearts of the pianist and the congregation whenever and where ever it is performed.
