La Vigilance (from Heroic Music) - Georg Philipp Telemann - Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download.

Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by rRgis Bookshar to be plauyd by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been arranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchased individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.
Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangemenst are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after playing through them, making them much easier for most high school students.

Woodwind Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of the Allegro movement from Henry Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. This selection is one of the arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library, many of which are being made available for the first time. They have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (10 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos. Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists, besides trumpet players, could also have the opportunity to play the Allegro movement from Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet, so he has created other arrangements of this selection. The origin of this work is the emotional emptiness I felt when I received the news of the death of a close friend in an unfortunate accident at home. The text was constructed with ideas and phrases taken from the poetic correspondence we had exchanged in the previous months. A few years later, I plucked up the courage to write the music, firstly for Choir a Cappella or with Piano ad libitum, followed by a version for Brass Quintet and another for Soprano or Tenor and Piano. This new edition for Voice has been revised in its entirety.
The English translation of the text at the end of the score is not intended to be sung. It is only inserted to help singers who do not understand Portuguese to comprehend the message.
The complexes that organise the harmonic and melodic structure are [6, 2, 5, 1, 3], [10, 9, 2, 8] and [4, 8, 9, 7].

    The 3 movements of Jeremiah summarize 3 main themes of the prophet's messages: Jeremiah's unwavering warning of coming judgment, the fall of Judah in 586 BC, and the promised restoration of Israel through the New Covenant. This tone poem is written in the genre of contemporary classical music and is intended for the concert stage rather than church preludes and offertories. Originally composed for violin and piano, it can be performed on several other instruments.

   Movement 3 is the finale of the tone poem. Alongside the warnings of God’s judgment are the promise of a brighter future for Judah. Jeremiah sees 70 years in the future when God will bring the exiles back, but actually much, much further into the future when God makes a new covenant with His people.

In the Silence for Euphonium and Band was commissioned by the Holcomb, KS, High School band (Paul White, director) in the winter of 2010. It was commissioned after the death of a recent graduate, Tanner Born, a euphonium player who participated in the band for all four years of high school. Tanner's parents funded the commission in his memory and asked that I not just make it a memorial piece, but a celebration of his life. Tanner was an avid bowler (illustrated in the rhythmic and celebratory middle section), golfer, and band member.

In the Silence is by turns beautiful and contemplative, as well as dark and dramatic, framing an enjoyable and rhythmic affirmation of life. The piece was premiered on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 by the Holcomb High School band, Jim Krohn conducting, with Travis Keller as the euphonium soloist. I had the distinct honor of sitting in Tanner's chair and playing euphonium with the band at the premiere.

It was just around a year earlier that Tanner had started attending the church in Garden City where I was choir director in 2009. I was introduced to him and remember a kind face. It was a surreal experience when I was reminded of that introduction after the premiere.You never know where life will take you and how our lives can be intertwined with the lives of others without even being aware of it. It was a wonderful reminder to me that with just a simple twist of fate, the smallest of moments can lead to some of the most powerful moments in our lives.

A piano solo arrangement of Call Of The Faraway Hills; this famous melody was featured in the award winning Western film Shane, starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Van Heflin. Released by Paramount Pictures, the film is noted for its landscape cinematography, editing, performances, and contributions to the genre. The picture was produced and directed by George Stevens from a screenplay by A. B. Guthrie Jr., based on the 1949 novel of the same name by Jack Schaefer. Its Oscar-winning cinematography was by Loyal Griggs.

Shane was the last feature film and the only color film of Arthur's career. It also features Brandon deWilde, Jack Palance, Emile Meyer, Elisha Cook Jr., and Ben Johnson. It was listed as No. 45 in the 2007 edition of AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies list, and No. 3 on AFI's 10 Top 10 in the 'Western' category.
