Of the 500 pieces written by Thomas P. Westendorf, this is his most famous ballad, and is often categorized as Irish. It continues to be popular, appearing in films/TV, and has been recorded by many over the years (Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley).  It begins in the traditional 4/4 and transitions to 6/8.  Score and Set of Parts.  Performance Time:  approx.  3:20.

After teaching for over 25 years I can tell you this- Violinists are never too young or too inexperienced to play with style and expression! The Espressione Primer etudes are to educate and encourage students to do just that!  They feel proud and eager to practice when they like what they hear from their own playing! No's 1 through 5 are on strings E and A only; 6-10 on D and G; 11-14 add the use of the fourth finger; 15-20 use the low 1 and low 2 fingerings. Basic dynamic and articulation markings are used and definitions are given for expression terms!

When she choked on a locust her friends tore up the coat and used it in the mummification process instead of the usual white bandages. So three thousand years later Mimi still dresses in style.

Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible keys and range balanced by some fast passages. With a playing-time of around four minutes, Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal.
