This chart is based on an old stock that had some pretty crazy licks, particularly for the horn part. Later, as a music teacher, I would either be approached by students in the same kind of situation or I would have an after-school ensemble consisting of something like 3 flutes, 2 alto saxes, 4 pianists, 5 drummers, a guitar, a viola, and an accordion. Now, really. Who writes for THAT combination?!  Since I am also a composer (who often finds herself writing for similarly odd instrumentation), I would simply arrange music for that combination. But not every teacher or student is comfortable with doing that or has the time to. Finally, I am sharing with you all the fruits of my labor. Let friends play with friends! Let people pick parts that they are comfortable with! Let’s play some music we love!

Yeah, maybe, but it was wildly popular and remains so. Never mind that there's no Kokomo in the Florida Keys. It's a town in Indiana where the surf is almost never all-time. Or maybe a private resort island in Fiji, but that was probably named after the song. And the music video for Kokomo was filmed at the Grand Floridian Hotel at Disney World in inland Central Florida, where the surf is also never quite up. Verdi was born near Busseto to a provincial family of moderate means, and developed a musical education with the help of a local patron. Verdi completed his Requiem Mass in April 1874 and conducted the first performance on May 22, 1874, at the church of San Marco in Milan. Viva la Verdi is a medley of Greatest Hits from the Requiem. The instrumentation consists of double brass quintet plus timpani and bass drum. ( Flugelhorn is preferred for the first trumpet’s solo.) It would be an ambitious undertaking for an excellent college or professional group but the rewards are many. This is a beautiful piece of music and the power of the brass ensemble is needed to convey both the intensity and peace of the Requiem Mass. Duration: 9:25
