Bach’s Sonata in E Flat for Flute and Cembalo BWV1031) repeat the first 22 bars of the original score, thus creating a lengthier piece suitable for a concert program. In this new arrangement, however, the repeated section is made more interesting by reversing the roles of the solo and accompaniment parts: the piano now plays the melodic line (along with the bass line as before) whilst the soloist provides the accompanying counterpoint. Bach’s original manuscript contains no performance directions other than a fermata (pause) at the very end. All performance directions in this version are suggestions only. Peanut Butter Jam is a beginner concert band composition grade 1.0.  This arrangement was originally composed for Taunton Forge Elementary School, in Medford, NJ and was known as the TF Jam.  When my 5th grade saxophone students were learning their part, we sang peanut butter jam to help learn the rhythm.  I since have changed the title to Peanut Butter Jam.  This piece can be used with standard FL, CL, AS, TPT, TBN and PC and will sound perfect!  The Oboe, BC, TS, BS, and FH double the main instruments.  This fun, jazzy bop arrangement allows the director to discuss AABA form, dynamics, articulations, and accidentals.  Have fun!

Charles Wesley’s (1707-1788) Advent hymn, “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus,� from Hymns for the Nativity of our Lord (1744), reflects the dual nature of Advent for Christians, in that it recalls the first coming and incarnation of the Messiah while also anticipating His return.Each stanza presents a different idea: Stanza 1, the longing for freedom from sin and fear; Stanza 2, attributes of or names for Christ; Stanza 3, the Messiah's birth, kingdom, and purpose; and Stanza 4, a prayer for Christ's rule in believers' hearts. Among the Scriptures referenced in the hymn are 2 Corinthians 4:14, Revelation 3:21, Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:18-19, and Romans 6:22. In this setting of Wesley’s text to an original tune, a short introduction is followed by verse 1, presented by women’s voices (soprano, alto) and verse 2, presented by men’s voices (tenor, bass). It consists of short pieces written or revised between 1893 and 1896, to mark the birthdays and other events in the life of the daughter of the composer's mistress.An orchestral version of the suite was scored in 1906 by Henri Rabaud, and has, like the original piano duet version, received several recordings. The best-known section of the suite, the Berceuse, has been arranged for several combinations of instruments. In Britain it became famous as the play-out tune to Listen with Mother.The suite, consisting of six short pieces, each with its own title: Berceuse, Mi-a-ou, Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse and Le pas espagnol. The complete suite takes about fifteen minutes to perform.This is my arrangement of movement.2 Mi-a-ouAllegro vivo. Mi-a-ou was written for Dolly's second birthday in June 1894. The title does not refer to a pet cat, as has often been supposed, but to Dolly's attempts to pronounce the name of her elder brother Raoul, who later became one of Fauré's favourite pupils.The young Dolly called her brother Messieu Aoul, which Fauré took as the original title for the piece. In his finished manuscript the title is shortened to Miaou (without hyphens).The Fauré scholar Robert Orledge writes that the title Mi-a-ou, like that of the Kitty-valse later in the suite, is the responsibility of Fauré's publisher, Julien Hamelle.[
