The soundtrack for the new film was written by Simon Franglen, who originally wrote 5 hours of music to cover any and all situations in the almost 3-hour movie.The Songcord is a beautiful song that is heard twice in the film – at the beginning and at the end. A songcord is a mnemonic device used by the Na’vi that assists them in storytelling. In this song, Neytiri is thanking Eywa – the Great Mother - for her family.This arrangement is scored for flute quartet - 2 C, alto, and bass.An optional part of this piece is what helps create the mood, which is the part called “Shimmer�. In an interview, Simon Franglen said that an important part of the music is the feeling of light, and he achieved that by including shimmering sounds into his tunes. The “Shimmer� part can be played by hanging a few keys (house keys, car keys, etc.) that have different pitches on short lengths of string. Use a small metal or wooden object to lightly hit the keys to create little “dings�. You can also use wind chimes, a little xylophone, bells, etc. The idea is to create a magical mood without overpowering the music. Play this part wherever there is a note in the measure.Duration: 3.75 minutes.

His family moved to Paris, after Metz and part of Lorraine were annexed to Germany in 1871 following the Franco-Prussian War. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, gaining first prizes for solfège, piano, organ, counterpoint and fugue. He won the French Prix de Rome in 1882, with his cantata Edith. His teachers included Antoine François Marmontel, Albert Lavignac, Émile Durand, César Franck (for the organ) and Jules Massenet (for composition).He succeeded César Franck as organist at Sainte-Clotilde Basilica in Paris from 1890 to 1898. He himself was succeeded by another distinguished Franck pupil, Charles Tournemire. Associated for many years with Édouard Colonne's concert series, the Concerts Colonne, from 1903, Pierné became chief conductor of this series in 1910.His most notable early performance was the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird, at the Ballets Russes, Paris, on 25 June 1910. Colombian musician José Rozo Contreras arranged the music for symphonic band, which was adopted as an official version in 1946.  This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in five independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys.
