Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862538 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034191. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862538). Here is the first in the sequence of dual-interval selections. The half-step and the whole-step, close cousins, but, Do They Get Along? Sure! The traditional musical element that uses both these intervals is the octotonic or diminished scale. So, this material figures prominently in the first section, accompanied by alternating major and minor sevenths. The piece uses mirrored and symmetrical passages in 7ths next, followed by the opposite smaller intervals. Rolled mirrored clusters, symmetrical open chords, every possibility is explored here, each aspect showing its own identity. The intervallic unity gives the piece, and ALL the pieces in this series, a continuity that binds the disparate pianistic applications together into unified and identifiable musics. Running time is approx. 3 mins 30 secs. at suggested tempo. Any piece in this series can go slower, if the player needs the time, or faster, if the player feels like gunning it! MBB.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938426 Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century. Score and parts. 74 pages. Colin Bayliss #11311. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938426). The work was completed on February 2nd 1970 and is the first piece to be retained by the composer after he had destroyed all his earlier compositions. The Score is available as a separate download The following is taken from the catalogue of the composer's works:- The photocopy of the MS is marked String Quartet No. 1, but is not regarded by the composer as part of his mature string quartet writing. The MS itself was lost in a fire at the home of Col. Robert Tong, formerly Registrar of Queen Mary College, University of London. A typesetting was made in November 2000 as the photocopy had faded so badly. The composer's sketch books suggest that the movements were written in the order 3,2,4,1. 1. Allegro 2. Scherzo (Allegro energico) Trio I - tempo di menuetto Trio II - no tempo indicated - [andante] 3. Andante con moto 4. Allegro ma non troppo Composer's note:- As the above suggests, I originally had no intention of publishing this early piece. The recording by the Lochrian String Quartet of the six numbered quartets, however , together with sleeve notes admitting the existence of this work, prompted me into revising my opinion and allowing its publication, so that anyone wishing to study this first effort may do so. It shows certain traits that I was to develop in the six quartets and others that I was to discard, and therefore is of musicological interest. It also has a few good, albeit imitative, tunes! Duration: Approx. 25 mins. COLIN BAYLISS was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in 1948. His life-long love of music led him to compose from an early age and he now has a catalogue of over a hundred works including two operas, four symphonies, six string quartets and many other pieces for most instrumental and chamber groupings, over seventy of them published. He is a member of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, the North West Composers' Association and the Performing Rights Society. As well as writing music himself, he has also compiled annotated catalogues of the works of Anthony Hedges and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. CDs of his piano music played by David Martin and complete organ music played by Ronald Frost are available on the New Century Classics label. Piano - Digital Download SKU: BQ.979-0-50179-209-2 Composed by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Edited by Slavy Dimoff. This edition: softcover. Bisel Classics. Score. With Text Language: English / German. Opus 39. 58 pages. Published by Bisel Classics - Digital (BQ.979-0-50179-209-2). ISBN 9790501792092.In 1811 with his Op. 39 Hummel composed another series of dances that he dedicated to the Apollosaal, the most fascinating amusement hall of Old Vienna, and a popular venue for the enlightened nobility just as for the emerging bourgeoisie. This series of dances surprises with several special effects. Hummel included a quote from the popular ballad opera The Swiss Family one vocal part and a large scale Coda envisioning the eruption of Vesuvius. These enjoyable musical miniatures offer an interesting glimpse into the creation history of the classical waltz and the world famous Viennese dance culture. They retain their charm as dance music to the present day.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862533 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033289. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862533). Etude 2.0 uses the major third as its component interval. Major 7th and augmented arpeggios predominate. Some are slow and graceful, others fast and turbulent, changing octaves with each iteration. Still others are pointillistically distributed between the hands. Octaves with major thirds attached to the outer ranges take mirrored, topographically identical structures, and explore the lowest and highest registers at the conclusion. Approx. running time is 3 mins 30 secs. More etudes to follow, til the set of 25 is complete. Once the single interval pieces have been posted, the combination pieces begin. All the possible groups of two have been utilized. Then the groups of three, and finally, the final etude uses all the intervallic elements in turn in one piece. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862531 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033247. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862531). Here is the second etude of the set of 25. It uses the interval of the second, or whole-step, hence the designation 1.0. Mirroring and contrary motion abound here, as secondal structures, in chords, clusters, and single-note lies are all shaped and fingered the same for both hands. Smartly percussive in its sound. Only one short whole-tone-sounding segment. It is surprising how many types of symmetrical, pianistic gestures can be combined using this topographical i.e. black/white keys approach, and strictly limited intervallic material. Approx. running time is 2 mins 25 secs. Look for the rest of the set, and the complete set in one volume coming soon. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933947 Composed by Jasmine LAI. Concert,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Jasmine LAI #6565277. Published by Jasmine LAI (A0.933947). This is my first time I have written a piece that doesnot have a standard structure. It is also the first time that I have expressed my feelings about Australia through music, inspired by Lawson’s moving poem. The reason why I name my piece ‘Consciousness2.0’ is because it depicts a picture of how people rise and fall in life. An example of this is what happened during the Australian bushfires, which was a time when people were very aware of what was happening.  Consciousness means to be aware and responsive to the surroundings, and it can also mean a person’s perspective of events.  My piece begins with a soft introduction, which describes the life of Australia and its unique environment. From the bustling cities to the open country, there is always some life around Australia. Sometimes there is also some wild weather, which is represented in the arpeggiated left hand (bars 10-14). The story then shifts its focus to the animals, through short 2-part phrase in bars 23-26. The animals areenjoying their time in nature. The phrase is in Aeolian mode, so there is a bit of mystery instead of having an obvious key. Then, the parallel fifths depict the openness and vastness of the land. The transition is shown in bars 32-34 by a smooth 4-part phrase going downwards. The next fast section (bars 35-47) describes the rise of panic, just like a howling heat of the bushfire. The chromatic 7th chords (bars 36,38) make a sense of tension, and after 3 times, the chromaticism makes its way to a recent memory of the rushing semiquavers (bars 43-44) After the bushfires came closer, animals panicked as they rushed and left their precious homes. It was devastating to see how many people were affected, with houses destroyed, people and animals burning into the ashes (bars 48-54).  Then there is another new section (bars 55-68) which describes the uncertainty, for example, the right-handquavers describe a flashback of nature planning itself to create a bushfire, or the times when people were planning a solution to this incident. The uncertainty was unfolded when the fast right hand semiquavers come back, (bars 69-82) creating a whoosh of destruction disappointment and adjustment.  The last part is the ending of story (bars 84 to end). Though the fire has made a lot of destruction, with Aussie spirit, there is always hope that everyone can rebuild a new and better community in the future
