Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1414403 Composed by Leslie Bricusse and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,World. 50 pages. John Ivor Holland #996173. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1414403). The Last Emperor is a 1987 epic biographical drama film about the life of Puyi, the final Emperor of China. It is directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and depicts Puyi's life from his ascent to the throne as a small boy to his imprisonment and political rehabilitation by the Chinese Communist Party. It premiered at the 1987 Tokyo International Film Festival, earning widespread positive reviews from critics and was also a commercial success. At the 60th Academy Awards, it won all nine Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also won several other accolades, including three BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, nine David di Donatello Awards, and a Grammy Award for its musical score, which features nine pieces composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, five by David Byrne, one from Cong Su, and a few incidental pieces of source music. 'Open The Door' occurs quite early in the film and can be considered to be one of the main themes, often performed instrumentally in concert by Ryuichi Sakamoto - as a song, with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, it is not often heard, so this piece would work on many levels in a concert of film music.

Soprano solo, percussion, harp and string orchestra - Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6446-E Composed by Henry Mollicone. 21st century, prayer. 19 pages. Duration 24 minutes, 50 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6446-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6446-E). Latin. In Time of War: Prayers and Meditations was completed in June, 2004. The work was written in response to the wartime events of our time, and juxtaposes vocal movements based upon Latin prayers with purely orchestral sections (meditations on wartime subjects). The Latin prayers in this work consist of the Agnus Dei from the Roman Catholic Mass, a prayer which asks God for forgiveness of the 'sins of the world,' and two hymns to the Virgin Mary: Ave Maria and Ave Maris Stella. The concept of the Blessed Mother as the spiritual mother of all humanity is a powerful one which I believe touches us on a deep level. As children, our mothers give us guidance, tenderness, unconditional love and protection in a world where evil exists. In our time, horrific wartime events daily take their toll on innocent civilians, while motherhood is revered in all cultures. This work is about the coexistence of these two disparate but ever present realities, representing the best (unconditional love) and worst (war) aspects of the human condition. -Henry Mollicone Duration: 24' 50 Contents:1. Victims of War 2. Ave Maria 3. Meditation: 9-11-01 4. Agnus Dei I 5. Meditation: Preemptive Strike 6. Agnus Dei II 7. Ave maris stella 8. Meditation: Hope.

Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.754959 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 50 pages. Sy Brandon #3225729. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.754959). This composition was composed for Jeffrey Kyle Hutchins, saxophone and EunHye Grace Choi, piano. It is in four movements. The first movement Boisterous is not in the classical sonata form, however, it does reflect sonata-like qualities with contrasting themes. It is very rhythmic and uses the interval of the fourth for its melodic and harmonic material. The second movement Whimsical’ is in a moderate tempo with five beats per measure. It is very playful as it alternates diatonic with chromatic passages with outbursts of musical laughter. Movement 3 Witty is in a scherzo style. The melody and harmony are based on thirds but are not in any clear key because the thirds will freely vary between major and minor creating an atonal quality. Contrast between staccato and legato is another way the movement is witty. The last movement is called Teasing and is in a modified Rondo form ABACBA. The teasing occurs in many different ways. The first appearance is the way the movement seems to stop and start as if promising a longer line, but not delivering. In the B section, the left hand of the piano plays a syncopated idea consisting of wide intervals and frequent rests. The right hand inserts a jeering four-note motive. The saxophone plays a melodic idea centered around a descending minor third, the universal teasing chant interval. The C section is in 7/8 and acts as a chase scene, as if a game of tag is being played. The ending continues the teasing by avoiding a strong cadence with deceptive chords and melodic lines of vague tonality/modality.

Are your students ready for more intermediate or advanced band repertoire, yet the band’s limited instrumentation holds them back? My Limited or Full series is geared toward the success of small bands with limited instrumentation. These pieces aim at giving small bands more advanced music within the framework of a young band arrangement. If you like the music, these pieces also sound great with a larger full instrumentation.PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:Leontovych’s CAROL OF THE BELLS is one of the most iconic and timeless Christmas carols in Western music. This arrangement inserts the classic carol into an exciting, lively concert band overture that is sure to interest both your students and your audience! This overture begins with a loud and bombastic riff, accompanied by a lively accented background rhythm. The introduction then gives way to a soft and lively melody in the flutes and high woodwinds. The full ensemble then enters, combining traditional carol with the lively accented rhythm. The piece then softly passes the melody between sections. The melody is further passed around as instruments are added. The piece finally gives way to a bombastic combination of the traditional carol and the introductory riff. The melody is then softly passed between sections once more, and then this section finally builds to a full orchestral finish. I sincerely hope that you enjoy my lively arrangement of Carol of the Bells.      - Christopher Durigg

Instrumental Duet Drums,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1013054 Composed by Christine Southworth. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 7 pages. Airplane Ears Music #5802089. Published by Airplane Ears Music (A0.1013054). Sharktooth Frenzy (2014, 4') solo pianist with snare drum and bass drum. For Danny Holt. Composed at The Hermitage Artist Retreat. I wrote Sharktooth Frenzy for Danny Holt in January 2014, while in residence at The Hermitage Artist Retreat in Manasota Key, Florida, a special place, paleotologically, because fossilized shark teeth from up to 50 million years ago wash up on the beach here every day. Around 50 million years ago, Florida was completely under the ocean, and layers of limestone accumulated to create the bed rock of Florida. Starting around 30 million years ago, as the Earth cooled, sea levels dropped and Orange Island emerged in what is now north central Florida. 10 million years later, in the Miocene period, tectonic activity forced uplift around Orange Island and Florida began to resemble the land mass it is today. The coastal area was still covered by a shallow sea, but land animals lived inland. Further north the Appalachian Mountains were forming and sediment was flowing into Florida making very nutrient rich waters, which sank to the bottom of these shallow seas entombing dead marine animals and teeth from sharks (sharks loose teeth frequently, going through up to 30,000 in their lives). This continued until around 5 million years ago. There is an abundance of these fossilized teeth and other bones in the Peace River Formation and Myakka River, which washes out into the gulf each day, and then subsequently the fossils wash up onto the beaches of Manasota Key and Venice Beach. So while I was composing this piece for Danny, I was also obsessively collecting shark teeth. I’d go out each day as the tide was retracting and collect hundreds, actually thousands, of teeth. And it was a bit of a frenzy. So I decided this piece had to be about this process, collecting as many teeth as I could find and coming back to write music!About the ComposerChristine Southworth (b. 1978) is a composer and video artist based in Lexington, Massachusetts, dedicated to creating music born from a cross-pollination of sonic ideas. SATB choir and keyboard, with optional congregation - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.50-1152-E Composed by James Chepponis. Advent, Christmas, Feast of the Holy Family, Lessons and Carols. Instrument part. 8 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #50-1152-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.50-1152-E). English. This hymn-anthem tells the astounding story of the God who is revered by all of creation- earth, sea, and sky- choosing Mary to be the mother of the Savior. The mixed meters employed for the 6th-century poetry are anything but jarring, and the middle stanza is set to different music with a medieval feel that accentuates the repetition of the word blest to describe Mary's destiny. A delightful but substantial anthem useful for Marian feasts as well as Christmastide. The keyboard part works well on both organ and piano. Congregational participation is welcome but not required; reprint material is included.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335323 Composed by Kendra Brown. 21st Century. 26 pages. Kendra Brown #921147. Published by Kendra Brown (A0.1335323). The main theme is inspired by the introduction of the piece. Delicate and child-like. The ostinato in the beginning of the piece that double reeds have displays the feeling of a “child-like†waltz. The pattern is in 3 but it should be played as if it is in 6/8, with emphasis on beats 1 and 3. There should be weight to the sound but it should not be heavy. Sometimes in life, (as both teens and adults) we tend to get caught up in stress or worries and we forget to take a break, relax and destress a little. This piece reminds us to go back to our childlike roots. As the theme in Section A expands, it takes a turn in Section B where the tempo picks up. (Players are encouraged to have as much fun as they can with this part.) At and after the exposed bassoon part at m.50, in the words of my old high school band director, “Let it rip potato chip!†(Meaning give it all you’ve got and have fun). Brass are encouraged to play the dynamics as written in this section but listen to each other. Section C is a bridge to the 7/8 in Section D. Section D, reintroduces the theme in the form of a trumpet solo while brass and some of the woodwinds have the ostinato. Be careful euphonium & tuba because you’re missing a beat on purpose! Section E is the “Medley†of all the parts that were previously played with only tuba playing in the relative minor so it sticks out at the bottom of the ensemble. This is symbolic of the piece itself, showing that the pressures of life can be overcome by keeping a good attitude and persevering through those tough times that you encounter. Section F is another “bridge†beginning with the flute solo reiterating the theme one last time before the “descent and climb†(starting at m.137) to the final destination: Section G. Section G should be played like an overture. Full and with joy and a “coming alive-ness†to it therefore bringing life to the once dead emotions that once were. The ending with the oboe/bassoon duet should be played as quietly as possible & as in tune as possible.

Martin Woodward #878659. Published by Martin Woodward (A0.1287635). For Kay - Because the Lady doesn’t necessarily like Milk Tray! Back in the late 50’s when I was a kid, my elder brother and I used to spend numerous hours playing in the woods and as a team we’d catch anything that was catchable, such as lizards, newts, frogs, shrews, slow worms etc. One time our cousins Angela and Kay came to stay and just for a laugh, we acquired an empty chocolate box, added a few lizards, and gave it to Kay (who was 5 at the time). Clearly Kay didn’t appreciate how difficult it was to catch the lizards and reckons she’s been traumatised for the last 60 odd years. I keep telling her that I was only an innocent accomplice and my brother was the instigator.Anyway, this piece is for Kay with love to help ease the trauma. This piece requires at least a 76 note (6 octaves) keyboard. I would rate this as MODERATELY DIFFICULT, but very satisfying.
