I Love Your Smile is a song by American singer-songwriter Shanice, released in October 1991 as the lead single from her second studio album, 'Inner Child'. It features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis (retained in this arrangement) and, to date, I Love Your Smile is Shanice's best known and most successful hit. It charted well in the US and across Europe and in 1992, Shanice was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. NME ranked I Love Your Smile number 50 in their list of Singles of the Year in December 1992 and it always seems to find new fans from all generations online, where the video has been viewed millions of times. There is a little snippet of Debussy's 'Arabesque No. 1', which is featured in a remix version of the track and the chart ends with another sax solo to bring everything to a peaceful, happy close. The Variations for Flute and Piano (1990) are a dynamic and virtuosic work consisting of an original theme, ten variations, and a coda.  In addition to traditional devices like contrapuntal imitation, inversion, and fragmentation, many of the variations hearken back to earlier periods in music history.  Variation III is suggestive of an aria from Baroque opera, Variation VIII spoofs twentieth-century avant-garde music, and the piano part in Variation X evokes Rachmaninoff.  The brilliant coda is a pyrotechnic tour de force for both players.

This solo feature for a quintet's trumpeter or cornetist is from the Golden Age of concert bands at the turn of the 20th century composed by legendary Sousa Band soloist Hebert L. Clarke. Clarke's impressive setting of Carnival of Venice remains the most frequently performed version of the theme and variations cornet solo first made famous by Arban. To contrast the cornet soloist's pyrotechnics is a humorous trombone and tuba accompaniment that enlivens the listening experience. A flugelhorn/trumpet alternate part is provided for the horn part. The sound file is an actual brass quintet performance of the entire arrangement and not a computer playback of the score.
