A Marshmallow World was written in 1949 by Carl Sigman and Peter DeRose. It is commonly regarded as a Christmas song, although the lyrics make no mention of the holiday. Bing Crosby had the first hit version followed by Ray Anthony, Vic Damone, Johnny Desmond and many others. Dean Martin revived it in the 1970s and Phil Spector's version  with Darlene Love was an R&B hit. This arrangement for SATB chorus or swing choir and full orchestra features right harmony and 3 key changes  (C to Db to Eb) and a surprise ending. The composer chose four orchestral pieces from the score and arranged a concert suite, known today as the 1st suite. After Bizet’s death, Ernest Guiraud, a composer and close friend of Bizet’s, arranged the remaining incidental music to make the 2nd suite. In this transcription, (#1) Pastorale is transposed down a half step from the original key.This publication is for concert band with full score (pp. 1–55), piccolo–harp (pp. 57–215), and transposed parts (pp. 216–292).A printed score and the parts on CD-ROM are available for purchase at www.kasamamusic.com.

The style is reminiscent of movie scores by Lalo Schifrin and Henry Mancini. Various brass mutes and techniques borrowed from jazz ensembles add unusual orchestral colors. Features a brief timpani/flute duo inspired by the lyrics “Willie, bring your little drum; Robin, bring your fife and come.� Also includes an optional improvised jazz piano solo over minor blues changes that can be easily cut if a capable pianist is not available.
