Piano Quartet,String Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.775997 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 75 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2035303. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.775997). Quartet for Piano and Strings (A Sea Liturgy) (2009) was jointly commissioned for the Moscow Studio for New Music and the Arcturus Chamber Ensemble (Sarah Darling, artistic director). It is dedicated to the Arcturus Chamber Ensemble on its 10th anniversary. The work is cast in a single movement and is conceived as a sea liturgy. It attempts to conjure up an imagined set of spiritual rituals (not connected to any specific religion)-a ceremony of transformation and renewal performed in the context of a sea landscape. Though not broken into movements, the formal design of the work could be seen as follows: Processional - (Ritornello) - Invocation - Offering - (Ritornello) - Baptism - Rebirth - Recessional As with so many of my works, much of the initial musical planning took place in the context of the oceanscapes of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Those particular sea landscape were foremost in my mind while writing. The listener may also discard the imagined liturgical apparatus and simply listen to the work as a series of seascapes. (For the purposes of narrative clarity, the above section descriptors will be used in the below narrative.) The opening Processional begins with focused, austere intensity: the instruments unfold from a single pitch (E) into a more rich harmonic landscape. A Ritornello of pulsating string harmonics leads into Invocation, a warmly lyrical discourse. The Offering is a faster, jubilant development of the Invocation, where the prayerful melodies of the Invocation are transformed into a gift for the sea. A return of the Ritornello leads to the Baptism. In this section, heterophonic melodies unfold out of the new substrate pitch (D). In the transforming crucible of the water, these lines becomes more and more extended harmonically. The Rebirth is a dancing development of the Baptism; the harmonic extensions are pushed from dissonance into chords of pure joy. Emerging out of the afterglow of the Rebirth is the Recessional, in which the music of the Processional is revisited, now transformed by the ritual to center on the pitch D. The Recessional fades away peacefully, yet fervently.

Kim Kirkman #6697499. Published by Kim Kirkman (A0.779670). This is a wonderful old comedy song.I have put it into the key that Tessie O'Shea sings it (Ab major)I have put in the first verse that Tessie sings, plus the spoken part. I have changed some of the words of the spoken part to update them.I have then constructed a third verse from other verses that Le Clerq wrote. To sing it exactly like Tessie please repeat first verse.Words:Verse:For years a fairy queen I've bin', For years I foiled the demon king. But alas, I'm getting on, The years have flown somehow, And I feel that Fairy Snowdrop isn't wanted now. Chorus One:Nobody loves a fairy when she's forty. Nobody loves a fairy when she's old. She may still have her magic power, But that is not enough, They like their bit of magic from a younger bit of fluff. When once your silver star has lost its glitter, And your tinsel looks like rust instead of gold. Your fairy days are ending when your wand has started bending. Noone loves a fairy when she's old.Spoken:T'was I who found the magic wand, I will not tell you where.T'was I who found young Tinkerbell, her head was full of airI’ve been a fairy of the flowers, and fairy daffodils,I’ve been a fairy of the wind, and suffer from it still! In certain covered valley hills I go down to the glenBeen loved by all the children and run after by the men. Huh!Noone could touch me at me splits, me splits were all the rage,Until the night woodman left his chopper on the stage, what a mess! Verse 2:Nobody loves a fairy when she's forty. Nobody loves a fairy when she's old. As far as I can see they try to push you off the map, When once your wand has withered and your wings refuse to flap. When you have lost your little fairy dimples, And the mothholes in your dress let in the cold, It seems that they would sooner listen to a blinkin' crooner, Noone loves a fai-y when she's old!

RayThompsonMusic #907927. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1319293). A Somerset Rhapsody Op.21Arranged symphonic wind dectet/bass(Double wind quintet)NB Clarinets in A as in original orchestra (Parts in Bb also provided)Holst: A Somerset Rhapsody, Op. 21, was composed by Gustav HOLST in 1906, and was dedicated to Cecil Sharp, the renowned collector of English folksong music. It began as a work for orchestra called Folk Songs of Somerset, making use of 10 songs from the collections of Sharp. That work (on manuscript)was rediscovered in 2017 in New Zealand Holst reworked four of the tunes from that piece into the Rhapsody:The Sheep-Shearing Song (also known as It’s a Rosebud in June), invokes idyllic pastoral settings and is played at the beginning by the oboe d’amore (English Horn in the wind band version). High Germany, is a song about marching off to war, and is also used by Holst’s colleague, Ralph Vaughan Williams, in his own Folk Song Suite.True Love’s Farewell, is a song about lovers saying goodbye, and is sometimes also known as Ten Thousand Miles. The final tune used is The Cuckoo.Curiously, The Cuckoo does not seem to be recognised as one of the folk tunes used in this piece...the program note in the transcription refers only to the three other folk melodies, and many program notes omit any reference to The Cuckoo whatsoever.Though not a programmatic work, the composer once divulged to a colleague that the work told a story:Into a quiet country scene comes the sound of approaching soldiers. A youth who is courting a girl is persuaded to enlist and go to war. The soldiers march into the distance and the pastoral quietness returns. The girl is left alone.â€It works well for wind dectet.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813381 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,World. Score and parts. 45 pages. Regis Bookshar #6209763. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813381). Trombone Quintet - Advanced - Digital Download. This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a Trombone Quintet, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players and may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (45 pages). In addition to this version for 5 Trombones, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will be a challenge to many performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed working on it.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.873046 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Contemporary. Score. 11 pages. Sally Whitwell #6119391. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873046). A Week in November… and what a week it was! It was the week of the US Presidential Election 2020. As I write these words, the absurdist tantrums of the Trump-Pence campaign versus the reasoned compassion of team Biden-Harris continues even well after the results have been called in the Democrats’ favour. There will not be the usual respectful concession speech and transition of power. I worry every day about how these next few months will be so very difficult, maybe even dangerous, for my American friends. Those convoys of flag waving Trumpists gleefully, openly, encouraged by their ‘leader’, attempting to block the democratic process was horrifying to witness. Was America on the brink of civil war? It still doesn’t seem far fetched to think that as I sit in my studio on the other side of the world, feeling helpless. The only thing I felt that I could do for my friends over there was to offer them a way to feel safe and loved in the moment, a bit of musical mindfulness.  It was in this spirit that I wrote the second movement of this work, subtitled A Pocket Full of Calm. My excellent pianist friends Erica Sipes (USA) and Sandra Mogensen (Canada) adopted my little tune, recorded it on their social media to share said moment in the moment as it were. I hope it helped. I mean, if I can bring to even just one person some sense of calm solidarity, I’m happy with that. The fifth movement in the set, Victorious, resolute, but gracious, was a stream-of-consciousness creative response to the Biden Harris victory and the way they handled it so eloquently, so humbly, how they gave the world a sense of optimism once more. For a long while, I’d felt that I probably wouldn’t be welcome in America. As a mixed race, queer woman I was the antithesis of everything they valued. But now, people like me over there can feel human again. The relief! As for the other days of that week in November, they are part of a continuing series of daily composition exercises I started back in October in an effort to end a lengthy period of pandemic-induced creative block. Using a combination of exercises from Music Composition Toolbox (Barbeler/Blom/Hindson) and Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies I’ve been able to find my creativity again. Starting a composition ‘habit’ is the best thing I’ve done for my writing all year and is how I mean to continue for a long time. Sally Whitwell12 November 2020

Hales below.YouTube video: https://youtu.be/fxh5D3JYM_o When I see the world through a child’s eyes, I see mountains and bluebirds and bright butterflies; I feel sand through my toes when at the beach And the apples on the tree just out of reach. When I see the world through a child’s eyes, It’s easy to believe in a Heavenly Father so wise, That He created this earth and all its beauty untold; I still hope to see it that way when I’m old.   When I see a family through the eyes of a child, I see a father who provides and a mother who smiles; I have brothers and sisters who are kind to me And we all play together in harmony. When I see a family through the eyes of a child, I can believe in Heavenly Parents, loving and mild, I can view each person as someone of worth And accept them as God’s family here on the earth.   When I see others through the eyes of a child, I can learn compassion, to speak without guile; I can be teachable, forgiving, honest, and true, When I see the kind things others may do. It’s easy to believe in a God who is just, When I learn from others to show mercy and trust. I can learn patience while waiting a while, For God’s blessings to come to an obedient child.   (Optional for the Christmas season) When I see Christmas through a child’s eyes, I feel laughter and magic and wondrous surprise; I love lights and music and cookies and songs, I want to serve others and never do wrong. It’s easy to believe when Baby Jesus was born Though ‘twas long ago on that Christmas morn, That Love had come down to redeem and glorify, When I see our Savior through a child’s eyes.

Arranged by Dan Jones www.danjonesguitarist.com. Celtic,Instructional,World. Score and parts. 25 pages. DanJonesGuitarist #6671675. Published by DanJonesGuitarist (A0.851206). Ar Hyd a Nos (All Through the Night) is a beautiful yet simple Welsh, traditional song. This arrangement is part of a new series which is specially designed for classroom music teachers. The arrangement is very flexible to suit the abilities and resources available to each individual group and their teacher.  The instrumentation is: (1)  The melody for C instruments (such as flute) (2)  An easy part for C instruments (3)  The same melody for B flat instruments (4)  The same easy part for B flat instruments (5)  The same melody for E flat instruments (6)  The same easy part for B flat instruments (7)  A single-line percussion part (8)  A piano part which could be played by a pupil (approximately ABRSM Grade 3) or teacher (9)  A ukulele part with chords, the melody and TAB (10) A guitar part with chords, the melody and TAB (11)  A bass part in notes and TAB. This part could also be played by a cello, bassoon or any low-range instrument (12)  The melody written in a higher octave for more-advanced players (approx. ABRSM Grade 3-4). In the absence of some of the above, the arrangement is still effective due to the doubling of the melody. The bass part can also be omitted as the piano plays appropriate root notes, and the guitar plays chords. The piece is presented in in two sections with a modulation. If time is limited, just one section can be learned. A YouTube video with a demonstration video and audio track will be available at www.danjonesguitarist.com and on YouTube. The link will be published at sheetmusicplus.com. I hope that you find this arrangement useful. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.730492 Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Contemporary,Musical/Show. Score and parts. 484 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #4800547. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730492). Advisory: Ballet story contains adult situation and themes. Not suitable for audiences or performers under the age of 18.  INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENT PARTS 1 (Woodwinds and Brass). Piano Score, Full Orchestral Score, Individual Parts (Part 2) Sold Separately. American composer, James Nathaniel Holland, brings a ballet adapted from the first century Roman novel by Gaius Petronius (cir. 50 A.D.) to the stage. An entertaining ballet for adults (not suitable for general audiences under the age of 18), celebrating the male ballet dancer's physique and a laugh at our own human sexuality. The comedy is a romp of three gay protagonists and their adventures and misadventure in ancient Rome and their characters; an ex-gladiator, Enclopius, his young lover, Giton, and an upper class snob, Ascyltos. It should also be said that this ballet is not pure gratuitous vulgarity, there is a interweaving story containing a deeper message of real human relationships, the satire of ancient Roman archetypes, and a humorous glimpse into ancient Roman life that still rings true even 2,000 plus years later. Regardless of the subject matter, Holland's original music is fantastic tapestry of counterpoint, set in a sort of atonal-ism and heavy percussion, evoking a period of history no longer available to us. Although not all cues and counterpoint is contained here, this piano score is extremely useful for either a performance with 2 pianos and percussion and a dance company, a director's/choreographer's score, or a concise conductor's score, or rehearsal score. Measure numbers line up with the full score. An orchestral, performance CD is available for those company's on a budget.

Trumpet, Horn, Strings, Percussion and Bass/guitar About the Musical A great story about one of the 20th century’s greatest storytellers. Carefully researched, yet full of fun, this entertaining musical tells the story of the early part of CS Lewis' life from the time of his mother's death in 1908 until his arrival as a student at Oxford in 1916. (Throughout his life CS Lewis was always known as Jack) This new work was premiered at the end of 2019 at the annual CS Lewis Festival held in Ireland. (CS Lewis’ birthplace) It proved to be a great success and was very enthusiastically received. Synopsis Jack’s Journey is a whimsical re-imagining of the childhood journeys of CS Lewis - each of the seven songs representing a stop along the way to his eventual career as the writer of the Narnia Chronicles. The story is told through music relating his memories and significant episodes from his schooldays up to his entry into Oxford. Living almost entirely in his imagination as a small boy, the seeds of the world of Narnia are already beginning to grow in his writing and drawings. Little Lea, his childhood home, provides the setting for the early scenes. Following the death of his mother the young Jack has his first experience of school and England. He endures with fortitude the harsh regime of boarding school and begins to recognise the value of friendship, mutual support and the courage that children can show in adversity. He returns to Ireland and to Campbell College – a much more positive experience. Illness brings his attendance at Campbell to an end. Returning to Little Lea, Jack imagines the world of fairies and dwarves, a world beyond our own. He returns to school in England and comes under the influence of a variety of teachers. Expelled from Malvern, Jack next falls under the influence of his great mentor, Professor Kirkpatrick – the model for the Professor of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Jack’s Journey concludes with the anticipated arrival of a great hero, the hero of the first of the Narnian Chronicles, Aslan, the lion. ‘Jack’s Journey’ gives opportunity for young actors, (supported if desired by adults, taking the parts of the grown-ups.) There are short dramatic scenes, plenty of chorus work, opportunity for choreography and many solo spots for vocalists in the songs which are milestones in the story. List of Songs (the sample pages and mp3 file gives a chance to see and hear the first page of most of the songs) 1 Soft through the window 2 Kingdom of Mourne 3 Little Lea 4 Campbell Days - Boy to the left, Boy to the right 5 The Dandy's song 6 The Scholar's song 7 Strength and honour As will be evident from the above, there is plenty of flexibility regarding the scale of the performance. ‘Jack’s Journey’ may be staged using relatively modest outlay – for example, the premiere did not have a set because the venue for the performance was an actual railway station! The piece certainly allows for imaginative approaches to design and staging. In terms of the additional challenges presented by 2020 the length of the musical at 40 minutes helps in delivering a shorter theatrical experience. Also, the fully digital download of all performing materials allows for distribution via email Indeed the whole show could be effectively recorded and presented online as well as in person.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.870397 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Randy A. Steinberg. Baroque. Score and parts. 31 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1988451. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870397). Giovanni Gabrieli was no mere composer. He was an event. The figure at the nexus of many things all coming together in one grand tide. The greatest church in the greatest city of Europe. Freedom of intellectual thought. A Venetian School of composers at the forefront of musical innovation. The printing press and musical publishing. A Doge (Chief Magistrate or Duke) willing to spend, and spend big, on musical pomp and ceremony. A dearth of wealth and money to fund the grandest celebrations. He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is a Canzona published around 1615 for 6 brass. A variety of substitute parts are also included to handle the trombone parts with French horns and tubas. A great work that draws from Gabrieli’s many styles. The piece starts with a song like tune that is repeated throughout. Each variation is separated by a 3/4 dance-like chanson repeated throughout. The final cadence is classic Gabrieli with its grand finale. A Gabrieli instrumental ensemble work that provides listeners with a variety of common Gabrieli touches all in one piece without requiring a lot of musical forces.

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497843 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 12 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074255. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497843). Piano Duo - 2 pianos, 4 hands. Surrender, Between the Octaves was the piece that was composed first in the suite. It exposes a simple call to return to the beginning, to return to a pure act of listening. This note..ah, now that note.. oh. This is how the piece was written - one note at a time. Listening from within a space (its original title) of resonance, of edges and meetings, of disappearances and repetitions that reflect on this gentle body of notes. There is a slow hearing that may, or may not create a tone-journey.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians.  The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.
