Two settings of Away in a Manger (Murray and Kirkpatrick) are juxtaposed with the Polish carol Infant Holy, Infant Lowly. The choral writing is very accessible for any choir of modest ability and the piano accompaniment is generally supportive of the voices. The final verse which uses both the Murray and Kirkpatrick melodies simultaneously could be sung a capella or with accompaniment. This not-too-difficult arrangement would make a lovely addition to your holiday concert or church service.

These Variations on a Sentimental Theme, from his guitar magazine O Conimbricense Armónico published between 1848-49 are one of the rare examples of composition for the 6 string guitar in Portugal during the first half of the 19th century. This fingered and revised edition corrects some minor mistakes in the original.  It contains all my research and newly discovered informations about this previously unknown composer.Full bio here

He graduated in Ljubljana and studied music in Prague, Vienna (Joseph Marx), Paris (Schola cantorum) and Basel (Felix Weingartner).He spent many years teaching composition at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, teaching composers such as Nada Ludvig-Pe�ar, Zvonimir Cigli� and Janez Mati�i� whilst serving as a chancellor for a period and was a pianist, conductor, music writer, and director of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra based in the country's capital.His style reflected late romanticism with qualities of expressionism and impressionism in his pieces, often with a hyperbolic artistic temperament, juxtaposing the dark against melodic phrases in his music.Škerjanc was liberal in his attitude to music and multifaceted in his works. Whilst musically diverse, his opus centred on composition, varying from piano miniatures and solos for beginners, and solo and chamber works to full blown concertos and symphonies. Apart from sonatas, he notably composed a cycle of seven nocturnes, which many consider his greatest piano oriented work, and seven orchestral pieces Gazele (Ghazels).
