The poem was inspired by Hardy's visits to Cornwall, UK, when he was a young man. Lyonnesse (sometimes spelled Lyonesse) refers to the sunken land of Cornish folk tales, and is used here as a metaphor for Cornwall itself. It has a beautiful conduction of voices, counterpoints and harmonies quite interesting. For each stanza there is a contrasting differentiation and ends in a surprising ending. The arrangement is challenging, but at the same time, legal to rehearse and interpret. Works well without beat boxing, with just snapping, or more involved VP like in our performance. Though the chart is short, we liked to repeat the whole form once and let someone solo over A and B then have the main soloist come back at C. Anything for You is short and sweet, easy to memorize, and has some chromatic modulations that provide a challenge! A great piece to start out your semester with if you have singers with great intonation!
