Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998730). This is a lively, singable and catchy setting of these traditional words used at Choral Evensong. The piece features much syncopation in the jazz-like Magnificat, with its repetitive, minimalist accompaniment figures. Meanwhile, the hypnotic Nunc Dimittis repeats its key phrase, as a voice part is added in turn each time. Both movements end in the customary manner with the Gloria, which is based on the Magnificat's opening. The text is in English, adapted from Luke 1: 46-55 and Luke 2: 29-32. This setting is appropriate for most standards of 4-part choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs. The accompaniment can be on organ or can be easily adapted by a pianist. There is a further version of this work, for solo or unison voices, also from Sheet Music Plus. The Gloria alone is similarly available in various versions as 'Gloria Patri', again from SMP.

This tuneful, lilting anthem is suitable for small to medium sized church choirs, and can be effectively performed with just a few rehearsals. It is especially suited to Thanksgiving but can be used throughout the year.  The flowing piano introduction which is sight-readable, is maintained throughout as a contrast to the long notes in the melody.  The middle section showcases the male voices in the choir while the descant in the last section adds to the intensity as the anthem builds to a climax.  An optional accompaniment has been added to the A Capella section if needed.A review of this work is welcomed.

While this poem is specific to the experience a native speaker of Afrikaans living in the United States, it speaks to the universal experience of immigrants who now only hear their mother-tongues in their dreams, their prayers, and in their hearts. This is a great piece for intermediate to advanced high school choirs, and presents an interesting opportunity for the choir to explore a new language. .

The arrangement then ends where the piece began, with soprano soloist. This is an excellent choice for various occasions including All Saints Day, and life celebration services.
