The dove returned with an olive branch in its beak; dry land was reappearing. It swims! It flies! Volans is a southern hemisphere constellation first named Piscis Volans (Flying Fish) by Petrus Plancius. It was included in Johann Bayer’s star atlas, Uranometria and its name was later shortened to Volans. In some constellation illustrations, Volans is pursued by the constellation Dorado, a bigger predator fish. But in this piece Volans appears to be enjoying the sunshine and sea. Secondo carries the montuno and tumbao grooves of Afro-Cuban jazz styles, while Primo leaps and glides in scales and arpeggios.
