Originally included in the Postludes, Vol I set by the same composer, this has become an often-requested piece to perform in concerts and in church services alike. This firey piece sounds much more difficult than it actually is to play, so basically less work and more reward! Written in the French toccata style of the Romantic period, this piece is sure to excite and energize audiences anywhere (as it already has done so in organ concerts around the world)!Funny fact: this piece was once announced in an organ program before it was played, and someone in the audience misheard it as the Wildflower Toccata, soon becoming very confused when it did not sound like beautiful wildflowers in any way. Needless to say, after the concert they had to ask the performer for clafication that it was indeed meant to be the Wildfire Toccata.

The arrangement focusses on the buring question why don't you just meet me in the middle? that is constantly asked in the chorus. While the original is a song you can dance to, the lyrics tell a story of despair and resignation that are highlighted in the SSAA-Arrangement through dynamics, reharmonization and the use of breaks. It shows the beauty and strenght of close harmony voicings while showing both a strong and fragile side of SSAA choirs.

The form and character of the original recording is generally fairly closely followed. This arrangement is set ½ step higher than the original recording for better accessibility, especially for players not as comfortable with the key of D. Besides the Tuba part (which has some fun twists and turns), every other instrument gets a chance to play the melody for an entire verse or chorus to keep things interesting for all.Performance options: The first and second verses are fairly identical. Since the lyrics of this song tell a story, it didn’t feel right to eliminate anything from the form. So, for variety’s sake, a different player is featured for each verse. If desiring a shorter play duration, a choice can be made to either feature the F Horn player or the Trombone player (or alternating between them) on the opening section before heading straight into the second ending.

Mr. Trombonology by African American composer, trombonist, bandleader and publisher Nathaniel Cleophas Shorty Davis was written in 1917 as a Trombone solo in the American genre of Ragtime featuring the trombone's patented glissando as the hook. These solos were also called smears or jazzes. Mr. Trombonology is one of five entertaining works from Davis' Trombone Family written between 1915 and 1921 and comes with the subtitle - A Characteristic Trombone Smear. The Son of Oh Slip It Man. The work even comes with a shout-out chorus page of music for those times when you want to get the crowd all pepped up! Perfect for school shows, etc. This arrangement has been beautifully arranged by Aaron Hettinga for Trombone and Piano. It is playable by moderately advanced performers. Grim (A0.939379). Sail was an impactful electronic rock tune to define an era of mental health issues and struggle in young people of the early 2010's. The song goes through the signs of depression and stress, and connected with the listeners in a way that electronic rock had not done before. This simple arrangement was one of my first for the steel band, (as the copyright shows). Edited in 2020 to be better, but the form and harmony stayed the same, which is original to the song. Very simple lower pan parts, nearly all of the work is on the tenor parts. This would be great for a young band!
