A double concert for violin and cello is difficult to find in the list of works of Russian composers of the 19th century.  There are simply no such well-known works.  I decided to take a chance by trying to do an orchestral transcription of the brilliant Arensky Piano Trio D minor op. 32, where the parts of the solo violin and cello remained in their place, and the piano part was completely replaced by the orchestra.  Particular attention is paid to the balance of sound between solo instruments and the orchestra.

This SSAA voicing (scored in barbershop format) is based on the Take 6 version of A Quiet Place as penned by Mervyn Warren. This version takes the well-known and loved 6 part harmonies of Take 6 and condenses it down to 4 part treble voices. Although only half the range of the full mixed voice version of T6, this arrangement encompasses the chord progressions and tight harmonies we've come to know and love. Requires a keen ear for harmony, as there are some very tricky voice leadings.

The Poor People Of Paris is arranged as played by piano artist, Liberace.  It was often used by Liberace as part of medley of songs about Paris; and in concerts around the world.  

The Poor People of Paris is a US pop song that became a number-one instrumental hit in 1956. It is based on the French language song La goualante du pauvre Jean (The Ballad of Poor John), with music by Marguerite Monnot and words by René Rouzaud.  Edith Piaf had one of her biggest hits with the original French version; and she sang it on the Ed Sullivan Show.

The song was adapted in 1954 by American songwriter Jack Lawrence, who wrote English lyrics that are considerably different from the original French ones. The English language title arises in part from a misinterpretation of the French title, as pauvre Jean was taken for the same-sounding pauvres gens, which translates as poor people..

Lawrence's lyrics, which pronounce Paris as PaREE in the French style, are seldom heard, as most of the popular recordings of the song in the English-speaking world have been instrumentals.
