It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. The four movements follow the Classical pattern; the first movement, Sostenuto - allegro is followed by a scherzo (allegro molto, in 7/4), an adagio (also in 7/4) and a finale (allegro molto). The balance of the movements, however, differs in that the first and last movements are concertante movements for cello and first violin respectively; the argument of the third movement is largely made up of a love duet between the second violin and the viola, where the other two instruments have a mainly accompanying rôle, and only the scherzo has an equal balance between the forces. Interval review in the studies begins with seconds and gradually expands to focus on thirds, fourths, tritones, fifths, sixths and sevenths. While 14 different time signatures are presented, beat subdivisions are not complex to facilitate precise rhythmic execution.
