Starry Night for a Ramble was popularized in Victorian London by singer and Shakespearean comic Samuel Bagnall in 1873.  Although an earlier edition from Scotland exists suggesting it was written earlier and perhaps by someone else. Later it was adapted as a popular fiddle tune which is still heard at contra dances today, either as a jig or a waltz.  This arrangement for mandolin orchestra incorporates the salubrious tune as both a waltz and a jig on a meandering ramble through various keys.
