Avoroes, maurischer Philosoph, Maimonides, jüdischer Philosoph, Abu Hassan Hazm, arabischer Universalgelehrter, lebten in dieser Stadt. Die “Hagia Sophia� in Konstantinopel, zuerst mehrere Jahrhunderte christliche Kirche, dann mehrere Jahrhunderte Moschee und die “Mezquita� in Cordoba, zuerst mehrere Jahrhunderte Moschee, dann mehrere Jahrhunderte christliche Kirche, haben etwas gemeinsam: sie sind Symbol für den interreligiösen Dialog. Diese Symbolidee wird in meinem Orgelstück Cordoba musikalisch in ein strukturelles Notenbild umgesetzt, das die Betrachtungen und Visionen von “Hagiia Sophia� (ED 54 282), “Ex oriente lux� (ED 55826) vollendet. The concert piece 'Nirvana Burning' was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival and premiered by Fazıl Say and the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra at the festival opening in August 2010. It consists of the movements Nirvana and Burning which blend into each other 'attacca'. 'The topic of my piece is Nirvana, the mysterious place of salvation inside us, or the non-describable feeling to get into touch with it', says Say. 'When I played it at home, first my sister and then even my cats and dogs quietly entered the room to listen. But when I reached the second part, Burning, they all left the room in a hurry.'.

German.At first described as 'religious song' by Schumann, the motet 'Verzweifle nicht' could be heard with organ accompaniment for the first time on 4 July 1850 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the University's choral society St. Pauli in Leipzig. He wrote the organ version specifically for this performance for he had originally planned an orchestral accompaniment. That, however, could only be completed later and was eventually premiered in 1853. In a letter to Schumann, Herrmann Langer, the conductor of both world premieres, mentioned 'the wonderful effect which the same has produced' and that, to him, 'the motet was one of the most stimulating and inspiring creations in male-voice literature'.
