Allegro assai The composer and harpsichordist Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy was born in Paris in 1744, and died in 1824 in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandie. She married Jacques Brillon de Jouy 22 years her senior, and had two daughters, Cunégonde and Aldegonde, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy had a salon in Passy whose guests included the violinist Jean-Pierre Pagin and cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini. Benjamin Franklin was also a frequent vistor and Madame Brillon has an extensive correspondence with him, including the period after his stay in Paris during the American Revolution .Many of her compositions were purchased in 1957 by the American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, in honor of this friendship. In 2021, French Pianist Nicolas Horvath recorded a landmark CD for Grand Piano (GP872-73) of Brillon’s keyboard noatas with extensive notes by Aliette de Laleu, Deborah Hayes and Nicolas Horvath and Christine de Pas The keyboard sonatas published here are intended to document this reocrding. The twelve numbered sonatas, marked “Troisième Recueil de Sonates pour le pianoforte ou clavecin avec accompagnement d’un viiolon ad libitumâ€, are in the hand of a copyist and are contained in a bound volume labeled as her Troisième Recueil (‘Third Collection’) and dedicated to Mesdemoiselles Brillon. Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1501664 Composed by Percy Granger. Arranged by Brian S. Wilson. 20th Century,Classical. 37 pages. G. Meredith Publications #1077544. Published by G. Meredith Publications (A0.1501664). SET OF PARTS.  Score sold separately. This orchestration is the end product of my book entitled Orchestrational Archetypes in Percy Grainger's Wind Band Music. In an attempt to understand the enigmatic style of Grainger's wind band music, I made a detailed analysis of his recurring orchestrational practices with regard to melody, countermelody, part writing and contrapuntal dynamics. The conclusion is that the Grainger sound is a function of recurring orchestrational techniques, rather than other compositional elements such as melody or harmony. This information was then used to dish up selected Grainger voice and piano pieces in his own idiosyncratic style.  I also arranged “British Waterside” and “The Cutting of The Hay” (G. Schrimer).  Lord Maxwell’s Goodnight is a reflective, moving piece based on a ballad about Lord Maxwell, who has killed a rival in a long-standing bloody family feud and is leaving for Scotland to avoid prosecution. He bids good-bye to his wife, his lands and his country.  Lord Maxwell’s Goodnight appears as Grainger’s British Folk Music Setting No. 42 for high tenor voice or unison male chorus and 4 strings (violin, viola, 2 cellos) in 1904.  The original is in the key of F major but has been shifted to Db major in this orchestration.  The lyrics of the first verse are: Adieu, madame, my mother dear,But and my sisters three O!Adieu, fair Robert of Orchardstane,My heart is woe for thee, O!Adieu, the lily and the rose,The primrose fair to see, O!Adieu, my ladye, and only joy,For I may not stay with thee, O!.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768518 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Roar Kvam. Christmas,Romantic Period. Octavo. 80 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6078597. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768518). Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (9 October 1835-16 December 1921) was a French composer, organist, conductor and pianist. He was a musical prodigy and made his concert debut at the age of ten. After studying at the Paris Conservatoire he followed a conventional career as a church organist, first at Saint-Merri, Paris and, from 1858, La Madeleine, the official church of the French Empire. After leaving the post twenty years later, he was a successful freelance pianist and composer, in demand in Europe and the Americas. As a young man, Saint-Saëns was enthusiastic for the most modern music of the day, particularly that of Schumann, Liszt and Wagner, although his own compositions were generally within a conventional classical tradition. He was a scholar of musical history, and remained committed to the structures worked out by earlier French composers. This brought him into conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and dodecaphonic schools of music; although there were neoclassical elements in his music, foreshadowing works by Stravinsky and Les Six, he was often regarded as a reactionary in the decades around the time of his death. He wrote the Oratorio de Noël (Christmas Oratorio) at the end of the 1850s and completed it in 1860. The first performanse was at the church La Madeleine in Paris December 1869. The work is dedicated to A Madame la Vicomtesse de Grandval. The work is originally scored for five soloists, soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor and baritone, mixed choir (except no. 4 which is for SSAA), harp, organ and strings (in this edition the choir has been transcribed for a SSAA choir). Texts in the Oratorio de Noël is drawn from the Old and New Testaments: (1. Instrumental).    2. Luke 2,8-14.   3. Psalm 39,1.   4. John 11.27.   5. Psalm 117, 26-28.   6. Psalm 2,1 and Gloria Patri.   7. Psalm 109,3 and Graduale.   8. Isaiah 49,13.   9. Lamentations 2,19, Mica 4.13, Zachary 9,9, Isaiah 62,1.   10. Psalm 95,8-9, 11,13.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928983 Composed by Unknown. Arranged by Donald A. Mills, 2019. A Cappella,Blues,Concert,Folk. Octavo. 5 pages. Donald A Mills #4853851. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928983). With an original introduction by this arranger, this melodic balled is sung here a cappella, unencumbered by instruments. Some of the chord structure is complex, but intuitive. Your audiences will surely love this beautiful song in this new arrangement for SATB.From Wikepedia:Historians have not been able to definitively identify The House Of The Rising Sun, but here are the two most popular theories:1) The song is about a gambling hall in New Orleans. The House Of The Rising Sun was named after Madame Marianne LeSoleil Levant (which means Rising Sun in French) and was open for business from 1862 (occupation by Union troops) until 1874, when it was closed due to complaints by neighbors. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St.2) It's about a women's prison in New Orleans called the Orleans Parish women's prison, which had an entrance gate adorned with a rising sun artwork. The melody is a traditional English ballad, but the song became popular as an African-American folk song. It was recorded by Texas Alexander in the 1920s, then by a number of other artists including Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White and later Nina Simone. It was her version The Animals first heard. No one can claim rights to the song, meaning it can be recorded and sold royalty-free. Many bands covered the song after it became a hit for The Animals.
