It appeared a year later in the film ‘Moulin Rouge’. Tony Bennet revived this song, making it a signature song, with his debut single in 1950; and subsequently recorded it 3 more times. It has earned its place in The Great American Songbook. This arrangement is an homage to “Boulevard’s� diversity: it can be a sad ballad, it can be a Bennet/Sting duet, it can be a Tango, it can be typically-French, it can be a soundtrack… mostly it is just a great piece of music. The original music “Andalucía Suite�, by composer Ernesto Lecuona (“The Cuban Gershwin�) was written sometime between 1923 and 1928. The suite contained a tune titled “Andalucia� (in English “The Breeze and I�) and lyrics were added in Spanish by Emilio de Torre and English by Al Stillman.  Over time, the tune became popular and found its rightful place in jazz standard repertoire.  This arrangement is for 4-part SATB ensemble. with English text, and piano accompaniment.  It is an excellent introduction to Lecuona’s brilliance as a musician, as well as Cuban music.  Performance time: 3:15+-.

The melody of this song written for the Disney film Cinderella (1950) was inspired by Liszt's Transcendental Study No. 9. It's a wistful, tender melody which matches the sentiment of the words, and in the film Cinderalla encourages her animal friends to never stop dreaming or believing in a brighter future. Other Disney songs also echo this sentiment, such as When You Wish Upon A Star from Pinnochio, which was released a decade earlier. This arrangement is in 3-parts with a simple piano accompaniment. It should be sung smoothly and with sustain, and the men can enjoy taking the tune the second time through. The ending should be dramatic and bold. There are two layout versions - one with the piano accompaniment, and the other with just the vocal parts.

Stewart (A0.1170438). “Lilli Marlene� (Lili Marlene, Lily Marleen, et al) for some is a song of (political and social) contradictions, but it is first and foremost a love song – the tale of a young soldier in love with a girl while they are surrounded by the horrors of war.  Inspired by the poetry of German Hans Leip (1915), set to music by Norbert Schultze (1937) with a traditional folksong-like melody (to a typical war march-like accompaniment); the British Ministry of Information commissioned Tommie Conner (1944) to write a set of English lyrics to ‘encourage British war morale’ - for they were worried of the effect of German song’s popularity on British troops.  This arrangement is for solo voice and piano accompaniment.  It is in the style of a cabaret ballad – for after all it is a love song. Conner’s pronouns have been changed so the tale can be told from the perspective of Lilli Marlene.  Performance time: 3:15+-.
