God Defend New Zealand — saxophone quartet By Thomas Henry Smith, John Joseph Woods, Thomas Bracken. Arranged by Dan Ford for saxophone quartet, including parts for soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. This arrangement is gig-tested and designed for ease of reading during the heat of a live gig. God Defend New Zealand is the official national anthem of New Zealand (Aotearoa). This arrangement includes a soprano saxophone part on the lead (melody), and also an optional lead part on alto saxophone for when soprano saxophone is not available. The remaining voices are split between alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones in SATB voices. Capricho Catalan by Isaac Albeniz, arranged for saxophone quartet SATB or AATB with additional parts. This piece is the fifth movement of the suite España, Opus 165 by Albeniz. It offers a delicate melody played over a gently pulsing ostinato. Originally for piano solo, here it is scored for saxophone quartet SATB. Additional parts are included to allow flexibility in your ensemble. This arrangement includes the following parts:

Catalonia has a great tradition of Christmas carols, rather like Austria. They are secular songs in general, intended to be sung by anybody at any time during the Christmas period and not specifically for use in church. El Cant Dels Ocells - The Song Of The Birds - is a traditional Catalan Christmas song and lullaby. It tells of nature's joy at learning of the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem. The song was made famous outside Catalonia by Pau Casals' instrumental version on the cello. In this arrangement for voice and guitar the guitar part is entirely original while maintaining the famous tune.

Catalonia has a great tradition of Christmas carols, rather like Austria. They are secular songs in general, intended to be sung by anybody at any time during the Christmas period and not specifically for use in church. According to the writer Joan Amades (1890-1959), who was curator at the Museu D’Industries I Arts Populars in Barcelona, these Christmas songs were sung by shepherds at the doors of the churches on Christmas Eve, some of the melodies date back to the 15th century. This is a full score of all three carols for reference purposes.

The title of Julian Anderson’s first piece for guitar refers to a painting by Joan Miró in which the dominant element is a vivid blue. In Miró's work details such as guitar strings, the orange of a Catalan barretina and a smoking pipe are present and theses are reflected in the composers work. This piece is part of a triptych of works by Anderson relating to the colour blue, beginning with his violin concerto, In lieblicher Bläue, and ending with Van Gogh Blue.

A Mother's Child (El Noi De La Mare) is really a lullaby but is so strongly associated with Christmas that it can be considered a carol. It has a great many verses but I have chosen three that I both like and felt I could translate. This is a lovely tune and suits the guitar well, using two voices allowed some development of the original melody.
