The piece draws on the well-known North-East of Scotland folk melody and makes reference to several other tunes, including 'Cock o the North', the Gordon Highlanders Regimental march (which Eric was a part of) and the reel The Back o Bennachie. The central section features a reflective setting of the melody with a quartet of cornet, flugel, horn and euphonium, paying homage to a group lead by Eric at Cults Academy, where the arranger went to school.The piece has been recorded by Regent Brass on their 2012 CD On a Mission.
