Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808699 Composed by Alexander Borodin (1833–1887). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Film/TV,Holiday,Love,Musical/Show,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 49 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #5209931. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808699).      Borodin wrote his String Quartet No. 2 in 1881. Sixty-five years later, the Charlie Spivak Orchestra recorded Spring Magic, a song credited to William Engvick, Bert Reisfeld and Alec Wilder, that used the theme of the quartet’s third movement for its melody. But the better known adaptation was created in 1953 when Robert Wright and George Forrest used it for And This Is My Beloved, a song for their Broadway highly successful musical Kismet. The song was subsequently recorded by a number of well known vocalists. Additionally, the quartet’s third-movement theme has been used in several other movies since then.

Fred Coots with lyrics by Haven Gillespie. Numerous versions of the song have been recorded, and it has since become a pop and jazz standard. Alec Wilder terms Coots' melody a minor masterpiece. According to Ted Gioia, “’You Go to my Head’ is an intricately constructed affair with plenty of harmonic movement. The song starts in a major key, but from the second bar onward, Mr. Coots seems intent on creating a feverish dream quality tending more to the minor mode. The release builds on the drama, and the final restatement holds some surprises as well. The piece would be noteworthy even if it lacked such an exquisite coda, but those last eight bars convey a sense of resigned closure to the song that fittingly matches the resolution of the lyrics.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.794139 By Shirley Horn. By Richard Rodgers. Arranged by Dave Gingras, John E. Dosher. Jazz,Pop. Score. 2 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #6635937. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.794139). Isn't It Romantic? is a popular song and part of the Great American Songbook. The music was composed by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Lorenz Hart. It has a 32-bar chorus in A–B–A–C form. Alec Wilder, in his book American Popular Song: The Great Innovators 1900–1950, calls it a perfect song. This version features a root-based chord-blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements, but aside from a couple of left-hand fills we've stayed very true to the original melody.
