I have arranged and written a number of popular Spanish and Latin American songs specifically to help the development of Sight Reading at Intermediate Level - this means you should be able to read and play finger style guitar from Early intermediate levee (Grade 3 Trinity College) or above. In the range Grade 3 to 5 the keys used in sight reading exams are C major/A minor, G Major /E minor (one sharp) and F Major/D Minor (one flat) and this book contains songs using these keys. This verison of the book contains no marking on the music at all except the key and time signature in order to develop sight reading and note recognition skills. Published by Brian Strohmetz (A0.1417429). “Will the Sun Ever Shine Again?� is a beautiful tune from a lesser known Disney film, “Home on the Range.� While this film was not a success, this song is a stand out from it’s score, with Music by Alan Menken and Lyrics by Glenn Slater. Alan Menken has stated in interviews about this song that it was written after the 9/11 attacks in New York City. While not specifically about that in the story of the film, you can feel the artists pouring their emotions into the music and lyrics of this piece as they try to make sense of the world as it was in that time. I hope you and your quintet enjoy playing this piece. I have found it to be an emotional and satisfying one to perform and audiences will enjoy it as a part of any program as well.

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts. Interrotte speranze is another song about unrequited love for two tenors. Interrupted hopes, eternal faith, Powerful flames and beams in the weak heart His love is unrequited, so he wishes the lady ill! (Spoiled brat!) The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.
