So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. The influence of Chick Corea is found in the simple repetitive harmonies and driving rhythms. Two vocalists are featured melodically throughout the piece (with melodic line inspired by Chuck Mangione, thus the mash-up name in the title!), with up to six parts in the ensemble vocal parts. More accessible than many other Puerling charts, this piece gives lots of opportunity to work on ensemble tuning and rhythmic vitality! The highest note in the 1st sax part is (written) D6 and that in the 2nd sax part is C6. Five-page parts for the two E flat alto saxophones are provided as well as an optional part for tenor sax, which is exactly the same part as the 2nd saxophone. In the piano parts the improvisation chords are shown only in the 1st alto part purely for the sake of visual tidiness, but they appear in all the saxophone parts. If the participants do not feel confident enough, the improvising sections can be omitted. The surprises can be musical or non-musical, depending on the performance occasion and there’s an improvisation section which can be repeated as often as required.
