Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1250185 By Helga Ragnars and Knut Rygnestad. By Guðfinna Jónsdóttir and Knut Rygnestad. Classical,Contemporary,Folk. Score. 60 pages. Knut Olav Rygnestad #844518. Published by Knut Olav Rygnestad (A0.1250185). This morning your being wokeIn knowledge of your heart’s lossAs the night had no dreamsBut only a thousand falling stars. Then the richness of a busy daySeemed to you the work of evil witches.– Guðfinna Jónsdóttir from Hömrum (1899–1946)This quote, taken from the poem “The Golden Momentâ€, showcases some of Guðfinna’s writing’s distinct qualities: Profound sadness with a layer of beauty, and a juxtaposition of the mundane and the colloquial with grand imagery and the supernatural. Throughout her poetry we see these strong contrasts: A once-upon-a-lifetime moment that passes you by, but also the infinite beauty of a new-born baby. The wild Icelandic nature presented metaphorically like a protective Viking ship, but also great evil hiding under a sweet, romantic exterior. The life-long journey to a place of great beauty that was always inside you, yet also man’s desperate and futile attempts to bend a great mountain to their will. Her colourful and imaginative writing evokes the dramatic landscapes of her homeland in careful detail, as we’re presented with situations that carry both the great beauty and danger that the volcanic island holds.Guðfinna lived most of her life in Northern Iceland, working as a church musician and writing beautiful texts that unfortunately never made it outside of her native country during her lifetime. We get some small hints about her personal life through her poetry, such as the tragic and early death of her sister Hulda, who died from tuberculosis shortly after getting engaged. Helga Ragnars, being from the same town as Guðfinna and already familiar with her poetry, introduced Knut Rygnestad to it in 2019, after he expressed interest in writing settings of little-known poetry by women. The first two she sent were “Hið gullna augnablik†and “Tvær systurâ€, and Knut found these a joy to work with and quickly requested more, eventually leading to nine songs in total. With funding from Hljóðritasjóður Rannís and the Norwegian Arts Council, they were able to record and release these songs in 2023, and hope that this will help to make Guðfinna’s poetry reach a wider audience. This book contains sheet music for nine songs: Hið gullna augnablik Vöggubarnsins maÌl AÌfangastaður Tvær systur LjoÌssins knörr Hver ert þuÌ Mannsbarn Fjallið blaÌtt Mig dreymir enn

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1168471 Composed by Donna Summer and Michael Omartian. Arranged by Kathleen McGuire. Disco,Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Kathleen McGuire #768805. Published by Kathleen McGuire (A0.1168471). ***40th ANNIVERSARY***A Donna Summer hit from post-disco / new wave era (1983), She Works Hard for the Money is more than a fun pop piece. The song tells a story of a hard-working blue-collar woman, based on inspiration Summer found after the 25th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony (23 Feb 1983) when she attended an after-party. She encountered a restroom attendant named Onetta Johnson (whose name is mentioned in the song) whom she found sound asleep - despite a blaring TV - exhausted from working long hours. Summer related the story in an interview: I looked at her and my heart just filled up with compassion for this lady, and I thought to myself: God, she works hard for the money, cooped up in this stinky little room all night. Then I thought about it, and I said, She works hard for the money... She works hard for the money...This is it! This is it! I know this is it! The arrangement opens with an a cappella introduction in full harmony. The melody moves between the altos and sopranos, with each part otherwise providing rhythmic support (echoing the instrumental accompaniment). The sopranos divide into 3 parts occasionally, allowing some high voices (A-flat) to shine. There are no solos in this arrangement -- your women all have opportunity to sing this powerful, true story that serves more broadly as an allegory for women's rights and socioeconomic hardship. The arrangement is a show-stopper, bound to get audiences clapping and even up out of their seats! Set of band parts & full conductor's score available separately: Trumpet, Tenor Sax, Synth, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Set.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928983 Composed by Unknown. Arranged by Donald A. Mills, 2019. A Cappella,Blues,Concert,Folk. Octavo. 5 pages. Donald A Mills #4853851. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928983). With an original introduction by this arranger, this melodic balled is sung here a cappella, unencumbered by instruments. Some of the chord structure is complex, but intuitive. Your audiences will surely love this beautiful song in this new arrangement for SATB.From Wikepedia:Historians have not been able to definitively identify The House Of The Rising Sun, but here are the two most popular theories:1) The song is about a gambling hall in New Orleans. The House Of The Rising Sun was named after Madame Marianne LeSoleil Levant (which means Rising Sun in French) and was open for business from 1862 (occupation by Union troops) until 1874, when it was closed due to complaints by neighbors. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St.2) It's about a women's prison in New Orleans called the Orleans Parish women's prison, which had an entrance gate adorned with a rising sun artwork. The melody is a traditional English ballad, but the song became popular as an African-American folk song. It was recorded by Texas Alexander in the 1920s, then by a number of other artists including Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White and later Nina Simone. It was her version The Animals first heard. No one can claim rights to the song, meaning it can be recorded and sold royalty-free. Many bands covered the song after it became a hit for The Animals.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1419593 By Sophie Ellis-Bextor. By Davies, Ellis-Bextor, Johansson, and Korpi. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 21st Century,Disco,Film/TV,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. 42 pages. John Ivor Holland #1001012. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1419593). Get Over You is a disco track by British pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, taken from the album 'Read My Lips' and released as a double-A side with Move This Mountain in June 2002. The song was Ellis-Bextor's third top 10 hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart. Get Over You reached the top 10 in Denmark, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. In the latter two countries, the song was certified platinum and gold, respectively, also doing well across Europe in Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland. The accompanying music video for Get Over You is set in a shopping mall, after hours, on a rainy night, where slowly all the manequins begin to come to life, led by Ellis-Bextor in a wedding dress, eventually eventually causing havoc and smashing glass, even the camera, at the end. This cool chart has a built-in solo section for alto sax, tenor sax or trumpet towards the end, allowing flexibility as needed, with a punchy tag to finish. Arranged as part of an ongoing project to bring more music by women into the concert band repertoire.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913956 Composed by Arthur Breur. Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Floating Home Music #4719707. Published by Floating Home Music (A0.913956). This piece was my reaction to the story of a little girl named Marquishia whose life was too short and tragic. I think she deserved more than her fate, and wrote this lullaby to sooth my own grief after following the developing story in the news, as it happened.... Lloyd and Toombs told Culver City police Sept. 22, 1992, that Marquishia had disappeared during a shopping trip at the Fox Hills Mall. In the days that followed, Toombs appeared on television to ask help in finding the missing girl. When police summoned Lloyd and Toombs to the Culver City station for further questioning Sept. 28, the women admitted that the first story was a fabrication. They said that Marquishia had drowned accidentally in a bathtub at Toombs' home in Ontario. The women told police they panicked after the girl died and Lloyd dumped Marquishia's body beside a lonely stretch of road in the Lucerne Valley....

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787361 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Concert,Standards,World. Score and parts. 22 pages. Burke & Bagley #4793345. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787361). This is an orchestra arrangement of Elgar's choral setting of the Tennyson poem, There Is Sweet Music.  Scored for single winds, horn in F, and strings.  1111 1000 Strings.  Duration approx. 3'45.   Among the best-known compositions of Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) are his orchestral works, the Enigma Variations, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies among them. He is also known for his choral works, including The Dream of Gerontius, chamber music and songs.   Elgar’s 1907 set of Four Part Songs, choral miniatures for unaccompanied mixed chorus, are some of the most challenging in the repertoire.  The first of these, setting a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), There Is Sweet Music presents a particularly special challenge to the singers, as apparently the first music ever published composed in two simultaneous keys.  The men are in G major throughout, while the women are in A-flat major, two harmonically distant keys.  Nevertheless, the music never sounds particularly dissonant and the effect is gentle.   Choral conductor Dr. Gary D. Cannon noted an orchestral quality in Elgar’s choral writing and suggested the possibility that There Is Sweet Music might be transcribed for orchestra, giving the men’s parts to the strings and the women’s parts to the winds.  Composer Greg Bartholomew accepted this challenge and produced this arrangement.
