This is my version of La Vie En Rose the classic French chanson. I take it through 3 keys - D, Eb and E major. I play it in a moderately upbeat stride piano style and elaborate a little on the melody.It's a lovely haunting melody with a nice chord structure. I include chord symbols which always help me to learn and remember tunes. I don't include fingering or dynamics which you would never get two piano teachers to agree on so I leave these up to the discretion of the individual pianist.Please note this is a piano solo only and I don't notate the other instruments on my youtube recording but I write all my music as piano solos so they sound perfect as such.

It features two players, each with a number of marching percussion (drumline) instruments in front of them. Both players use a snare drum and mounted cymbal while one player plays 5 tonal bass drums and the other plays the tenors (for 5 drums). It is for advanced high school or college level players, and is very entertaining to watch. It includes stick tricks and moves that are neat to see and do. Ellington used Satin Doll as the closing number in most of his concerts.

The song has also been covered by many other artists over the years, including Bette Midler, Donna Summer and a 2018 version by Lady Gaga.
