It may be performed with only two Saxophones (Alto Sax I and Alto Sax II) and a standard backup with Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In addition, any combo may be augmented by adding any or all of the parts included for Flute, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. This flexible or variable instrumentation of JOEY’S READY makes it unique and perfect for schools and colleges that do not have a permanent roster of music students entering their music programs annually. It also eases the burden for Directors searching for good music to perform for groups with ever changing numbers of music students. What’s more, JOEY’S READY has a section open for solos to enable the ensemble to feature players who can improvise well enhancing not only the group’s enjoyment but also everyone’s listening pleasure. This piece has been performed by College and High School students in many major concert events along the East Coast with great success. These 2 Minuets and Air come from a collection of music called Minuets, etc., etc. for the Violin, Mandolin, German-Flute and Harpsichord (1770) by the British abolitionist, writer, shopkeeper, and composer Ignatius Sancho (1729-1780). They are arranged so that they can be performed as a work for String Orchestra or String Quartet. This is possible because the Cello and Bass parts are doubled. The Violin 3 part is optional and can serve two purposes: (1) To add more instruments to the viola section, if your orchestra has a small number of violists, to balance the parts in the ensemble, and (2) to provide more options for performing these pieces as a String Quartet. Originally written by Grammy award winner Kevin Gilbert (Toy Matinee, Tuesday Night Music Club, and the solo records Thud, and Shaming of the True), Simpler Times was part of an unreleased collection of 1985 recordings by Kevin under the title Decent Exposure. During a period when Kevin was going by the name of Kai Gilbert he wrote, produced, and played all the instruments on three separate albums that have recently been formally released as part of the boxed set Call Me Kai.  Kevin was a music student of mine at Serra high School in San Mateo, CA (yes, the same high school attended by Tom Brady) and remained a dear friend until his untimely passing in 1996 at the young age of 29. The Kevin Gilbert Estate, under the name GPP, serves as manager for all of Kevin's intellectual property and they have granted me permission to create this arrangement for jazz band and pursue its publication. Unlike the original dance-oriented track, I've reimagined Simpler Times as a medium tempo, straight 8th rock ballad featuring alto sax.

Concert piece for clarinet and live processing of the clarinet sound (live electronics).E profundo is an experimental piece for amplified clarinet and live electronics / live processing. Therefore, the part of the electronics does not exist as a separate sound file, but it is created during the performance of the piece as particular sounds played by the clarinet player are captured by the microphone and then processed, layered and played back. The timing of each new step/preset is decided and triggered by the performer. A second performer/projectionist behind the mixer (usually me - the composer) takes care for the balance between the live and the processed part, as well as for the balance between the layers of the processed part. The piece is an exploration of the timbral capabilities of the clarinet enriched by its digitally processed counter part. E profundo is a sound story which begins in the dark deepness and travels through the entire range of the instrument to reach the fields of noise, where it gradually returns to pitched and harmonious sound.

I had then realised after trying to write for Solo Viola how difficult it was, since it is such a unique instrument.
