Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1377195 By Floyd Cramer. By Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Jazz. 18 pages. Peet du Toit #961811. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1377195). Chattanooga Choo Choo is a 1941 song written by Mack Gordon and composed by Harry Warren. It was originally recorded as a big band/swing tune by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra and featured in the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade. It was the first song to receive a gold record, presented by RCA Victor in 1942, for sales of 1.2 million copies. The song opens up with the band, sounding like a train rolling out of the station, complete with the trumpets and trombones imitating a train whistle, before the instrumental portion comes in playing two parts of the main melody. This is followed by the vocal introduction of four lines before the main part of the song is heard. The main song opens with a dialog between a passenger and a shoeshine boy:Pardon me, boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo?Yes, yes, Track 29!Boy, you can give me a shine. Can you afford to board the Chattanooga Choo Choo?I've got my fare, and just a trifle to spare. The singer describes the train's route, originating from Pennsylvania Station in New York and running through Baltimore to North Carolina before reaching Chattanooga. He mentions a woman he knew from an earlier time in his life, who will be waiting for him at the station and with whom he plans to settle down for good. After the entire song is sung, the band plays two parts of the main melody as an instrumental, with the instruments imitating the WHOO WHOO of the train as the song ends. Here's my representation thereof with Sam Harrill's nifty percussion score supporting it.

Published by Connie Boss (A0.1513663). This version of Ave Maria has the same beautiful melody as the original. The lyrics, while maintaining the well-known Ave Maria words, also have some English translation along with Christmas Lyrics. It talks about the angel giving Mary the message from God that she will bear his son and needs to journey to Bethlehem. The melody is for a soloist and then SSAA quartet or choir parts that give beautiful harmonies off and on throughout the song. There is a very pretty  optional instrument part that can be played on flute, violin or cello - parts included. It's worth a listen. The optional instruments help fill out the song and if used without it, the piano is more plain. Any requests or questions, email cdboss@cvalley.net. Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028053 Composed by Sarah Hersh. 20th Century,Contemporary. 14 pages. Burbury Lane Music #4276953. Published by Burbury Lane Music (A0.1028053). No clarinet duet has made me stop in rehearsal and just smile so much from how cool things sounded. - Marcus Moore, clarinetist on Duo MpingoDuo Mpingo is an approximately 6 minute crowd pleaser that is perfect for any occasion. It is a modern but accessible piece that is loosely based on the lifecycle of a mpingo, or African blackwood, tree. It is a relatively advanced piece but could be performed by advanced level students. Duo Mpingo can be programmed equally well on environmental-themed or any other type of concert.Program Note: When I began to research the mpingo (African blackwood) tree in preparation for writing this piece, I came to learn that it is a fascinating tree. It has the ability to survive fires, it does not reach maturity for about 70 – 100 years, and it improves soil fertility. However, it is endangered in several African countries due to illegal logging and over-harvesting, in part because of its beautiful dark heartwood. The outside of the mpingo tree looks like any other tree with a light brown color; the inside, however, is a gorgeous, dark brown-black color – a color you have seen if you’ve ever seen a clarinet, as clarinets, along with other western instruments, are made out of the dark heartwood of the mpingo tree. I had never stopped to think about why wooden clarinets have such a dark color instead of what one typically thinks of as a wood color. I was astonished by the hidden beauty of this tree and what secrets lay inside.Duo Mpingo is somewhat programmatic in that it loosely chronicles the imagined life of a mpingo tree. There is a short section close to the middle of the piece (the inner part of the piece, if you will) that is meant to evoke the beautiful, mysterious, endangered dark heartwood of the mpingo tree. The direction to the performers for this section is solemn, prayer-like, reverential, which is how I feel we should look at every tree – not as something in our way that needs to be cut down, but with reverence for the amazing living things they are.Duo Mpingo was commissioned and premiered by Daraja Music Initiative and Clarinets for Conservation to promote a sustainable planet. This recording is by members of Terminus Ensemble, Marcus Moore and Lauren Murphy. To hear the entire piece, please visit www.sarahhersh.com.The composer is a member of ASCAP and may be reached at www.sarahhersh.com or sarahhershcomposer@gmail.com.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.766945 Composed by Bob Delfausse. 20th Century,Concert,Country,Holiday,Patriotic,Standards. Score and parts. 67 pages. Robert Delfausse #2343189. Published by Robert Delfausse (A0.766945). This 3-movement brass quintet is program music, in that it is written in the style usually used to depict the American West, and frequently has the instruments taking on the speaking roles of cowboys or other western characters.  The first movement has a group of cowboys sitting around a campfire telling tall tales (at least this is what I had in mind).  In the second movement ranchers (or farmers) are waiting desperately for rain, which comes only briefly.  The third movement involves rival families, a surprise wedding, and a square dance.  Silly, maybe, but it helped me write the music, which is fun to play.  Suitable for advanced intermediate and professional quintets.  Duration: 11 minutes, 11 seconds.

Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 9 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8323-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8323-E). UPC: 600313483233. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. Facing West is drawn from the Children of Adam book from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. The full title of the poem is Facing West From California's Shores. Though Whitman never visited California, his biographer Justin Kaplan made the insightful observation that he imagined California's shores to be the starting point for a journey through time and culture. Here was Walt, 'a child, very old,' facing home again, looking over to it, joyous, as after long travel, growth, and sleep, asking: 'But where is what I started for, so long ago?/And why is it yet unfound?' The invitation from the International Orange Chorale to compose a piece in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge led me easily and naturally to this great poem. The tone of Facing West is rich and complex, and draws on one of Whitman's favorite themes of using travel to distant lands as a metaphor for spiritual development. In his poem, Whitman strikes notes of reflection, of longing for adventure, and ultimately ends with a question. The continuing relevance of this question is for me beautifully addressed by the contemporary American writer Edmund White in his 1980 book States of Desire. To paraphrase somewhat, White writes: California is where dreams may come true, and the problem it presents is whether, after all, we wanted these particular dreams to be fulfilled - or would we have preferred others? Did we know what price these dreams would exact? Did we anticipate the ways in which they would unsuit us for the business of daily life? Or should our notion of daily life itself be transformed? For Americans, California's coast is as far as one can go in establishing new roots and new ways of living. As a transplanted Midwesterner who has made California his home for nearly three decades, I experience the Golden Gate Bridge as a beautiful monument to the aspirations and dreams of a restless and inventive people, qualities that Whitman's poem captures perfectly. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, study score. Duration 35 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2283. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2283). English.Karl Amadeus Hartmann wrote his first symphony in 1935/36. At that time he was still an unknown musician whose works stood no chance of being performed and who could not hope to find encouragement in his native Germany. He had to wait more than ten years for its first performance, which finally took place in Frankfurt in the spring of 1948 under the direction of Winfried Zillig. I was 21 at the time, and the work left an extraordinarily deep impression on me, an impression that marked the beginning of my admiration for Hartmann's music and its very special kind of intellectuality, which struck me as both important and significant: by this I mean its spontaneous and unrefracted immediacy, its honesty and straightforwardness – qualities that extend beyond this composer's works and affect his whole surroundings, including his fellow human beings. All Hartmann's works, moreover, contain an essential element of the art of compostion, namely, an exact correspondence between the artist's insistent need to express himself and the instrumental resources that he chooses. A superficial listener might perhaps fail to notice at first that the huge orchestral apparatus that Hartmann conjures up exactly matches his powerful expressivity and the colourful nature of his rhetoric. There is also the expansiveness and physically charged vitality of the native of southern Germany, a man capable of combining his own sense of inwardness with the beauty of the moment and a feeling of hymnic grandeur. It is a combination that reflects his own south German countryside and that answers a need to communicate sustained by his own unwavering faith in humanity. - Hans Werner Henze, in: Hartmann: Kleine Schriften.

Easy Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596609 Composed by Juan María Solare. Blues,Film/TV,Instructional,Jazz,Latin. Score. 4 pages. Juan Maria Solare #6098889. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596609). Juan María Solare: Hamacando a las mellizas (Swinging Twins or Swinging the twins)  a children blues for piano This work was born -precisely- rocking (swinging) my twins Laura and Alma, as an improvised melody that accompanied their activity (or rather mine). From there to write it down there was only one step. As a second theme, it seemed appropriate to invert the melody, since twinhood implies a certain specular symmetry.   Hamacando a las mellizas has the traditional structure of the twelve-bar blues, and a merry, innocent and carefree character.   Hamacando a las mellizas was composed in Bremen (Germany) between June 21 and 23, 2020. Shortly afterwards, adaptations for a variety of instrumental combinations were written, such as - alto saxophone, double bass and piano (*) - clarinet, double bass and piano - violin and piano - clarinet quartet (*) find this version in Spotify, Apple Music etc. from 1 January 2021. Carillon,Instrumental Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465418 Composed by Adam Lenhart. 21st Century,Baroque,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Instructional. Individual part. 14 pages. Adam Lenhart #1044120. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.1465418). For centuries people have associated music with the passing of time. While most of us no longer live within earshot of bells, many will find a catchy and simple melody still wakes us up in the morning, reminds us to go to that meeting we forgot about, or even just helps us to do day-to-day tasks. As an avid alarm-user myself, I find music assisting me with punctuality just as it has for my ancestors. I wanted to create a piece commemorating this bond between music and time, inspired by both traditional carillon melodies, as well as modern day ringtones. My piece Musical Clock contains movements for both beginners and intermediate players. Each movement may be played individually, but any two or more movements should be played sequentially. ~Adam Lenhart, 2024This composition was first premiered by carillonist Adam Lenhart at the 53 bell Charles Baird Carillon in Ann Arbor, Michigan.------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Associations Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Mens Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.

Bass/baritone voice solo, violoncello and organ - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6593-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 21st century, prayer. Score. 19 pages. Duration 10 minutes. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6593-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6593-E). English. The three songs Welcome Love (Ubi caritas), Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, and Gaelic Blessing are interconnected motivically yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. These three songs are interconnected motivically, yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. Peace and reverence flow throughout. The songs are for a bass-baritone. Commissioned in 2003 by David Arnold, a North Carolina bass-baritone who is a soloist in the 80-voice Chancel Choir at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Arnold premiered these songs at Centenary with organist Ray Ebert and cellist Jennifer Alexandra Johnston on February 27, 2005. A new version for voice and piano was created in 2005. A transposition for lyric Baritone was added in 2015, commissioned by Ferris Allen (Baritone) and Linda Holzer (Pianist) of Little Rock, AR.The lyrics for Ubi Caritas are based on a new translation, by Christopher Brunelle, of the traditional Ubi Caritas Est Vera. A recurrent image in this translation is the gesture of welcoming: welcoming love, welcoming God, welcoming the friendly unfamiliar thought, welcoming Christ with us. The musical interpretation of welcoming is stepwise motion, either up or down, around a pitch center. Perhaps this might be heard as an opening of the door, or an opening of the heart. An interlude leads to the second song, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, a musical setting of the Prayer of Saint Francis. The accompaniment is sparse, with material reminiscent of the welcoming pattern in the first song. This song alternates between triple meter for the thematic sections (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace) and duple meter for the more recitative sections (O Divine Master...). The music ends as it began, with simple open fifths accompaniment, this time filling in the chords to express the fullness of the lyrics born to eternal life.A second interlude provides the bridge to the third song, Gaelic Blessing. The text for this song is a series of blessings for peace. The gentle chordal arpeggiations in the piano are intended to provide a peaceful accompaniment. [Once again, the stepwise intervals and recurrent regular rhythms relate to the first song.]In keeping with the simplicity and repetition of the text, the music is formed by a series of four-measure phrases (blessings). The blessings are similar in contour, each spanning an interval of a fourth. Growth is achieved through repetition and some dynamic contrast. However, the principal aesthetic of this song is constancy and gentle flow. Only at the end of the song, when the voice descends into the deep range, is the melodic contour altered, and dynamic contrast introduced. As the voice ends on low tones, the piano line rises, perhaps to the source of peace.Duration: 10 min.
