Poulton and published in 1861.The tune is familiar to modern audiences because the melody was used in Elvis Presley's 1956 hit song Love Me Tender. Many different covers of this music have been recorded over the years by an assortment of artists. It is both a sentimental ballad and a classic in American Folk Music. This arrangement for String Trio opens with the instruments in close harmony. In the second section, the cello diverts to playing accompanying pizzicato arpeggios to the violin's melody. For the third section, the cello takes over the melody in its rich bass register while the violins play an obligato descant. The D.C. al Fine brings it all back to the original close harmonies for a stunnungly simple finish.
