Published by Ars Nova Press (A0.1335564). Too Much For Our Thirstby Alexander BurdissArranged for Trombone and PianoDedicated to Courtney CarmackPerformance Time: approx. 7:00This is an adaptation for trombone of a piece originally written for tuba. The Eyes of the Poor from Paris SpleenWritten by Charles Baudelaire, Translated by Arthur Symons Ah! you want to know why I hate you to-day. It will probably be less easy for you to understand than for me to explain it to you; for you are, I think, the most perfect example of feminine impenetrability that could possibly be found. We had spent a long day together, and it had seemed to me short. We had promised one another that we would think the same thoughts and that our two souls should become one soul; a dream which is not original, after all, except that, dreamed by all men, it has been realised by none. In the evening you were a little tired, and you sat down outside a new café at the corner of a new boulevard, still littered with plaster and already displaying proudly its unfinished splendours. The café glittered. The very gas put on all the fervency of a fresh start, and lighted up with its full force the blinding whiteness of the walls, the dazzling sheets of glass in the mirrors, the gilt of cornices and mouldings, the chubby-cheeked pages straining back from hounds in leash, the ladies laughing at the falcons on their wrists, the nymphs and goddesses carrying fruits and pies and game on their heads, the Hebes and Ganymedes holding out at arm's-length little jars of syrups or parti-coloured obelisks of ices; the whole of history and of mythology brought together to make a paradise for gluttons. Exactly opposite to us, in the roadway, stood a man of about forty years of age, with a weary face and a greyish beard, holding a little boy by one hand and carrying on the other arm a little fellow too weak to walk. He was taking the nurse-maid's place, and had brought his children out for a walk in the evening. All were in rags. The three faces were extraordinarily serious, and the six eyes stared fixedly at the new café with an equal admiration, differentiated in each according to age. The father's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! One would think that all the gold of the poor world had found its way to these walls. The boy's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! But that is a house which only people who are not like us can enter. As for the little one's eyes, they were too fascinated to express anything but stupid and utter joy. Song-writers say that pleasure ennobles the soul and softens the heart. The song was right that evening, so far as I was concerned. Not only was I touched by this family of eyes, but I felt rather ashamed of our glasses and decanters, so much too much for our thirst. I turned to look at you, dear love, that I might read my own thought in you; I gazed deep into your eyes, so beautiful and so strangely sweet, your green eyes that are the home of caprice and under the sovereignty of the Moon; and you said to me: Those people are insupportable to me with their staring saucer- eyes! Couldn't you tell the head waiter to send them away? So hard is it to understand one another, dearest, and so incommunicable is thought, even between people who are in love!

Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.719763 Composed by Various. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Sacred. 8 pages. Curtis Hanson #6069357. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719763). As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set include Holy, Holy, Holy, For All the Saints, and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. This collection of arrangements is also available for SATB voices and piano or piano solo.

Soprano voice, mezzo-soprano voice, or tenor voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.9229-E Composed by Juliana Hall. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #9229-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.9229-E). English.Written for Jun Mo Yang, a young tenor studying in the graduate Vocal Arts Program at the Bard Conservatory of Bard College. He and his fellow students were working on a special project studying contemporary composers whose work engages with climate change, environmentalism, and the natural environment. The students had been asked to read a chapter from David Haskell’s Sounds Wild and Broken and had further been given the following direction to guide them: “we are assigning each of you to a project in which you will seek out song repertoire from a living composer whose work responds to climate change or the natural environment, heightening our connection to and awareness of the natural world. This topic has arisen from a call to Bard faculty to #MakeClimateAClass: Bard faculty are urged to use our collective power as educators to engage with the climate change crisis.â€Jun wrote to me that he was drawn to my music and asked whether any of my songs might fit within this subject area. At the time I had plenty of songs that spoke of the natural world, but none I could categorize as specifically dealing with the class’ more narrow focus, so I offered to write this song on a poem by one of my favorite poets, Carl Sandburg, who even by the early twentieth century was noting the degradation of the natural environment and its impact on life of all kinds trying to adjust to changed circumstances brought on in one way or another by man. I quickly found the poem Buffalo Dusk, seeing how strongly it speaks of the extinction of species and the loss that represents. Jun and his teachers remarked what a “beautiful and sad poem†it was, so in short order I was pleased to present this song to Jun, who gave Buffalo Dusk its first performance in April of 2023 at the Bard Conservatory.

Kevin G. Pace #957484. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1373142). A rousing, sacred choral anthem with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.  Inspired by 2 Nephi 4:28 from the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Text:Why should I longer yield to sin, Or to temptation's grievous snare? Why should the evil one afflict my soul's desire, My soul's desire to bear? Wilt Thou deliver me, O Lord, And make my path be straight? Encircle me with heav'nly pow'r And glory at Thy gate.Awake, awake my soul in Christ! No longer droop in mortal sin. Rejoice, and sing my psalm to Thee; Like Nephi, I shall win.I know in whom I trust; For me my Savior came. My God is my support, my all; With love I'll praise His name. I will not put my faith in flesh; I know of Christ's sure victory. I know the Rock of Righteousness through mercy saves, through mercy sets me free. I lift my voice with laud to heav'n; My peace, from Thee restored. Thy Spirit's as a flame of fire; Thou art my King, my Lord.

Mixed Percussion Instrumental Duet,Tenor Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1315589 Composed by Brian Kershner. 21st Century,Contemporary. 14 pages. Gordon Cherry #904332. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1315589). Here are the program notes of Trombotriptych for solo Trombone and Percussion by composer Brian Kershner.Trombotriptych is the first piece I have written for the trombone in the main, solo role. I decided to mount the work as a duo with limited percussion, one player, and just two instruments, Woodblock and Bongos. The piece allowed me to learn about and explore the many extended techniques that the trombone can produce. I was grateful to work with the person, for whom the piece was written, Topher Logan, as this is such an immense help. The trombone is capable of great, almost oratorical power, as well as sweet, horn-like lyricism. There are portions of the piece which utilize a couple of different mutes, and the open and closed colors of the Harmon mute, slide and position changes for timbre color, glissandi, as well as multiphonics, which on this instrument are produced by using the voice, singing while playing. There are contrasting tempi in the work, including a middle section which seems barless, although is notated traditionally, and an up tempo section toward the end with exciting interplay between the instruments. It is hoped that the work captures the many sides of this most noble, heroic, and yet vocally pure member of the brass family. The music is appropriate for very advanced performers and is about 9 minutes in length.
