Written to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of World War II, this work is based on the writings, imprisonment, and martyrdom of German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The entire work is based on the hymn tune Vater Unser (Geistlich Leider,1539). As I completed the work, it became more apparent that I had not completely addressed the suffering of the Jewish people. My solution was to add one final movement to serve as a memorial based on -Ani Ma'Am in the 12th century tune often sung by the Jewish people in the Nazi concentration camps. The final statement of this theme is sung concurrently with the Christian theme, Vater Unser, with both joining together in a psalm of David. You are my light. You are my song. Of whom shall I be afraid?

This song is produced by Eric Tuffendsam and written and produced by Benjamin Andrew Lapps, John Vaughn Handelsman, and Matthew Carter Alvarado, the bassist. This transcription is based on the second track of the mini bundle and arranged to be played on a 4-string bass with standard tuning. Matthew’s main bass in the Fender Urge II Bass, an Artist Signature bass endorsed by Stu Hamm. This song is in the key of A major and about 3’52 long. The tempo is at 103 bpm, and the bass was recorded with a pick. The basslines are very prominent as they provide melodious roles rather than just sticking to the root note. It can be quite challenging to perform the bass part features a few techniques, such as ghost note, staccato, and slide. The arrangement is an arrangement / reduction of the original slow movement for Four Saxophones - Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxes. It is a very pretty work in Theme and Variation style form. There have been some minor liberties taken in part writing and octaves to make sure it works well on saxophone. I myself am a high school teacher and saxophone player, so I have made the parts accessible for most players. This work would be accessible by high school players and above.
