This marvelous arrangement of Peter Tchaikovsky's Coronation March, sometimes called Festival March or Festival Coronation March, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and other festive occasions. This arrangement keeps all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students. Professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (26 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available to the public for the first time. The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. It was written during March of 1883 and was performed for the first time on June 4, 1883 in Sokolniky Park in Moscow, conducted by Sergei Taneyev. The music then included excerpts of the anthem, God Save the Tsar. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. Tchaikovsky's Coronation March was originally scored for a full orchestra and written in the key of D Major. Regis Bookshar has now created an abbreviated version, written in Db Major, and has arranged it for a Clarinet Octet, consisting of 8 Bb Clarinets. In addition to this arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Coronation March for a Clarinet Octet, other arrangements of this festive composition for various instrumental ensembles are also available. Georg Philipp Telemann wrote four concerti for four violins unaccompanied, his TWV 40:201-204.  Here is the first concerto in G major arranged for four violoncelli by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.).  This arrangement is an octave below the original violin work.  Taking the key down an octave and a fifth to accommodate the same parallel open strings as the violins made the range too low (very playable; however, very muddy).  Therefore, I have used the same key as the violin, taking it down only an octave.  This gives a much more pleasing sound, but makes the upper range notes much more difficult, going up to a D5, requiring the use of tenor and treble clefs.  It is therefore listed as an advanced piece.

Publication of the entire  sonata is forthcoming, but the Passacaglia is offered here as a single,  standalone work. I have performed the Passacaglia in my own concert programs  both on its own and as part of the larger sonata. I believe that it works  equally well both ways. The Passacaglia form  originated in 17th-century Spain. It started as a series of strummed  chords that served as an interlude between dances. The term itself translates  as street song. Over time, it evolved to become a series of variations set  over an ostinato or ground bass, usually in triple meter. It is often  indistinguishable from a Chaconne. In character, the Passacaglia is often  serious, or even grave. The Passacaglia  offered here adheres to this tradition in most ways, except that it is in 5/4 instead of triple meter. The ostinato phrase is five measures long and set in  quarter notes. Variations usually occur in pairs and are distinguished by  texture. Beginning simply, the variations build in complexity throughout the  piece. The main theme, introduced in the second pair of variations, recurs  later in a fuller texture. One final statement of the ostinato in bare octaves  ends the piece. The tonality stems from an E harmonic minor scale, although an  added B flat serves to blur any sense of strict tonality.Please note that there are some minor differences between the score and the YouTube video of a live performance from 2018.

They are used to communicate with the spirits of the natural world, to heal the sick, and to actually provoke certain kinds of visual displays or visions in those intoxicated with ayahuasca. The most important of these songs are those learned from the spirits themselves or those recieved in the dream visions which can follow an ayahuasca session. Icaros are either whistled or sung, and can be expressed in any language. The shamans generally sing in a spirit dialect that is a mixture of their native language (i.e. Quechua, Shipibo-Conibo, Asháninka, etc.), Spanish, and different evocative sounds or vocables. Icaros represent a system of communication between the shaman and the spirits, and the shaman and the participants in the ceremony. The shamans believe that every living thing has an icaro and that these icaros can be learned.
