My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land was composed by Sir Edward Elgar (1857–1934) in 1889. The lyrics are based on the poem, Romance, by Andrew Lang (1844–1912), and it is the third of Elgar’s three cappella secular part-songs. My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land was published in 1890, while two other songs were published later.

The complete instrumentation is best for this transcription; however, it can be performed with as few as 9 players. This transcription is also suitable for a medium sized, or even large band.

This publication is for small concert band with full score (pp. 1–10), flute–percussion (pp. 11–29), and transposed parts (pp. 30–44).

A printed score and the parts on CD-ROM are available for purchase at www.

All things . . . for concert band, is a setting of the traditional tune All Things Bright and Beautiful. The melody, while undergoing quite a few variations and transformations, still remains true to the original lyric quality hymn tune. Initially, the hymn is fragmented and slowly is presented in larger pieces as the work progresses. At the climax of the piece a clear and exuberant presentation of the original tune can be heard. The piece then concludes by returning to where it began by fragmenting the melody again and fading into the distance.

The Queens's English is a concert march inspired by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. The piece starts out in ¾ time as the chimes pay tribute to London's Big Ben. As the chimes fade there are a couple of seconds of silence before the light hearted march ( in 4/4 ) begins. Slower than the standard march tempo of 120 bpm, this march reflects the majestic and stately manner of England's long reigning monarch.

Utilizing a fully instrumented concert band, The Queens's English includes a full battery of six percussion and two mallet players. This song is for a high school level band or an advanced middle school group.
