These 'Church Sonatas' were originally intended for performance in church by two violins with the organ as 'basso continuo' reinforced by the bass viol. These types of work are sometimes known as 'Trio Sonatas' but, because there normally are two people playing the continuo part, there are usually four players in all.The seventh sonata has three movements, with the tempo markings Allegro, Grave, and Allegro.
