Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1287383 Composed by Sebastián Iradier. Arranged by Julie Settle and Sally Bauer. 19th Century,Latin,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. 4 pages. Julie Settle #878401. Published by Julie Settle (A0.1287383). Probably the world’s most well-known song in the habanera style arranged for SSA + piano.‘La Paloma’ was written in the early 1860s by the Spanish Basque composer Sebastián Iradier, after a visit to Cuba.  Particularly popular in the Spanish speaking world, especially Mexico, ‘La Paloma’ has also been written and recorded in various other languages over the years.  (You may know the English version ‘No More’ sung by Elvis Presley in his film Blue Hawaii.)  I have read that along with ‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles, it is one of the most recorded songs in the history of music, certainly the most recorded Spanish song.Iradier’s original Spanish lyrics are written in four verses from the point of view of a sailor leaving Havana and parting from his sweetheart, dreaming of their wedding day and life together, and asking her to cherish his spirit if it returns to her window as a dove.  This SSA version has English text which tells the story in two verses. The piano accompaniment is a simple habanera style arrangement which allows the SSA harmonies to shine through.

Published by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) (A0.953634). Celebratory sacred intermediate-level piece for the Christmas season, with gorgeous Spanish textOs nace un Cordero (Unto You a Lamb is Born)Commissioned by Chorus Austin for On a Winter’s Eve 2021Music by Adrienne (ASCAP)Text by Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ãvila, España (1515-1582)SATB chorus, piano, pedal or lever harpLanguage: SpanishDuration 3:30Commissioned by Chorus Austin, Os nace un Cordero (Unto You a Lamb Is Born) sets excerpts from the Spanish poem Pastores que veláis by Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ãvila for SATB mixed chorus, piano, and harp. As angels announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, Teresa foreshadows Jesus’ crucifixion by referring to him as Cordero (Lamb). She also affirms Jesus as the fully human (hombre también junto) and fully divine son of the sovereign God (Hijo de Dios Soberano). The piece opens with angels approaching from a distance singing pastores (shepherds) followed by joyful choral couplets. Several dualities weave together representing the oneness of the human and divine: harp and piano; Venezuelan joropo rhythm derived from Spanish dance; sixteenth century text and twenty-first century music; and major and Phrygian modes. Spanning cultures, oceans, and centuries, this music exuberantly announces the celebrated birth of Christ. Translation by Adrienne Inglis and Jennifer Inglis Hudson Ah, shepherds who watch, for keeping your flock, see that a Lamb is born to you, Son of Sovereign God!  Oh, he's fully a man as well!In his hand is the life of every creature; look, this is the Lamb, Son of Sovereign God.https://youtu.be/u8gTnpn3VuE?t=5485
