Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.999619 Composed by Peter Benoit. Arranged by Marc Goris. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 15 pages. Brassery Publications #6025981. Published by Brassery Publications (A0.999619). The Duke of Alva's entry into Brussels from The Pacification of Ghent,  duration : 2 min music : Peter Benoit arr. : Marc Goris Peter Benoit composed music based on the historical drama with the title 'De Pacificatie van Gent' by Emiel Van Goethem. Because of the combination of drama and music he defined the piece as a lyrical drama. He completed The Pacification of Ghent on 11 July 1876, the world premiere happening on 3 September at the Ghent Municipal Theatre.   On 8 November 1576 a treaty was proclaimed from the balcony of the city hall in Ghent between the different regions of the southern and the northern Netherlands. This Pacification of Ghent occurred after the revolt against the Spanish occupation of Philip the Second and was the great ideal of William of Orange: he was striving for unity in the seventeen provinces in the Netherlands as well as for freedom of religion. Furthermore the treaty stipulated that the Spanish troops were to be removed from the Netherlands. Although this treaty was observed for only three years, the Pacification was embellished with a mythical aura in the Flanders of the 19th century. King Philip II sent the Duke of Alva to Brussels on 22 August 1567, at the head of a powerful army. On arrival, Alva replaced Margaret of Parma, the sister of the Spanish king, as head of the civil jurisdiction. He decided that the local nobility was in open rebellion against the king and supported the new Protestant teachings, heresy in his view. A few days later, on 5 September 1567, Alva established the Council of Troubles, popularly known in the Netherlands as the Court of Blood, to prosecute those responsible for the riots of 1566, especially those who were deemed heretics. Alba also targeted the local Catholic nobility, who favoured dialogue and opposed outside intervention. Two of the three heads of the Flemish nobility, the Count of Egmont, a Catholic General for Philip II, who had led the cavalry that defeated the French at the Battle of San Quentin, and Philip de Montmorency, Count of Horn, were arrested. The court sentenced both counts to death. The Major of Antwerpen, Anthony van Stralen, Lord of Merksem and Jan van Casembroot were other famous victims of the bloody repression, along with a large group of other heretics. The condemned persons were executed on 5 June 1568 in the Town Hall Square in Brussels. Alva had little confidence in Flemish justice, which he perceived as sympathetic to the defendants, and witnessed the executions in person.

Choral Choir (2-Part) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112712 Composed by Spanish Carol. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. Curtis Hanson #714725. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.1112712). In this post-pandemic era, demand for octavos for smaller choirs is on the rise. A La Nanita Nana is a lovely Spanish carol probably most well known in the arrangement by Norman Luboff. In this setting for 2 part mixed voices, the baritone line is a hybrid of bass/tenor ranges making it very accessible to a young choir with limited male voices. The treble part sits a little more in the soprano range and requires use of the head register. The only major challenge to the piece is to differentiate between the major and minor keys. Text is given in both Spanish and English allowing for multiple ways to interpret. It would be a welcome addition to any holiday program. It is also available for expanded choral voicing. This would be a welcome addition to the library with minimal voices. It would also work well as a duet.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.999871 Composed by William P. Gorton. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 3 pages. William P. Gorton #6116329. Published by William P. Gorton (A0.999871). This haunting lullaby/love song in Spanish is a gem! It would be great material for a student or faculty conservatory recital or public art song concert, especially as part of a set (see other Spanish compositions by William P. Gorton: Luna reluciente, Valentía, So el olivar). Intended to be sung in Castillian Spanish (i.e. the title would be pronounced bre-tho, with flipped r and theta-ized z and c where appropriate). This song happens to be Dr. Gorton's premier composition, and it is a real favorite with singers and audiences alike. Intermediate level.

White Piano International Publishing #1012405. Published by White Piano International Publishing (A0.1432652). CHARMING DELUSIONS (Un Pasado de Fantasia)Original Piano Solo Music from “FOREVER AMOR”Composed and arranged by Robert Van Horne in 1994Advanced Intermediate Piano Solo Arrangement(This sheet music does not contain the violin and bass scores as heard on the mp3 sample)6 pagesDuration approximately 4 minutesIn 1985, I fell in love with Mexican, Spanish, and Latin music after visiting Mexico City. There I discovered composers like Agustin Lara, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Astor Piazzolla. Despite not speaking Spanish fluently, I'm captivated by the language's musicality. This passion inspired me to compose Latin-style songs in the early 1990s, culminating in my album “FOREVER AMOR,” and later recording the music in 2016 for Piano, Violin and Bass. CHARMING DELUSIONS is a slow waltz that exhibits heart-felt feelings of wishes, desires and fantasies. The music builds on climatic themes and melodic ideas of searching for one’s true love.     Like many tracks on the album, it hints at the possibility of narrating a love tale through the evocative use of imaginary Spanish words. The piano sheet music for CHARMING DELUSIONS is clearly notated, featuring detailed instructions on dynamics, articulation, phrasing, pedal usage, chord symbols, suggested fingerings, and relevant musical terminology. While the mp3 sample includes violin and bass, the sheet music is for solo piano, suitable for intermediate to advanced players and instructors. Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1211732 Composed by Pascual Marquina Narro. Arranged by Pablo Guerrero-Martín. Classical,Contest,Festival,Folk,March,Multicultural,World. Score and Parts. 51 pages. Pablo Guerrero-Martín #809346. Published by Pablo Guerrero-Martín (A0.1211732). España cañí (meaning Gypsy Spain in Spanish) is a famous instrumental Spanish piece of pasodoble music by Pascual Marquina Narro (1873–1948). The song was written around 1923 and first recorded in 1926. Its main refrain (eight bars of arpeggiated chords that go from E major to F major (with added 4 instead of 5) to G major and back) is arguably the best known snippet of Spanish music and is popular worldwide.Several arrangements of the tune are often used for the Latin Paso Doble dance (to the point that, among Latin dancers, it is known as the paso doble song as it is very commonly played in competition due to the common custom for the choreography to match the phrasing and accents of the music for the full effect of the dance). The song has also been used as the theme song for Pablo Sanchez in the Backyard Sports games.
