Piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q41217 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. This edition: Sheet music. Piano - mazurkas - waltzes. Downloadable. Op. 54 und 56. Schott Music - Digital #Q41217. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q41217). Dvorák’s Waltzes and Mazurkas prove to be a successfully contrived balancing act between stylised composition and musical immediacy. The music critic Louis Ehlert once wrote of Dvorák’s Slavonic Dances that they made a real musician’s heart laugh within him; the comment might equally well be applied to these pieces. These “Waltzes and Mazurkas†rank alongside the works of Chopin in terms of artistic merit, yet they are not widely known and have not hitherto been heard as often in concert halls as they deserve. The Urtext version of these dances is published for the first time in this edition.

The Slavonic Dances are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are considered among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. This arrangement for flute with piano accompaniment of the marvelous and nostalgic dance no. 2 is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital or for a thoughtful encore.

Grant Horsley #956736. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1372437). Slavonic dances are inspired by the folk rhythms and styles of Slavic nations, This wonderful piece composed in 1886 is one of the finest and most well known. It has been arranged for early intermediate players, although the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess. I have written it in 3/4 time instead of the original 3/8 for ease of reading. The phrasing has been adapted to keep as close to the original as possible. There are also small variations in the final section to keep the arrangement cohesive.  It has been covered in so many ways for such a variety of instrumental combinations as it's such a popular memorable piece. It is useful for concerts, recitals, weddings, incidental music etc.It is roughly 5 minutes in length.Price is for the full score and parts.
