Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1393774 By Apostolos Paraskevas. By Apostolos Paraskevas. Classical,Contemporary,Holiday,Multicultural,New Age,World. 49 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #977243. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.1393774). APOSTOLOS PARASKEVAS (b. 1964) Santiago in the StreamSantiago in the Stream was composed for the Landmarks Orchestra, which gave the first performance under the direction of Christopher Wilkins, at the Hatch Shell on August 23, 2017. Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist, composer, film director, and producer. Since 2001, he has taught composition at the Berklee College of Music. The spokenThe text was developed by Ryan Edwards (a student of Apostolos Paraskevas) out of Hemingwayâ??s short novel The Old Man and the Sea. The composer has written about the piece: â??The music describes Santiago's emotions, thoughts and actions during his last journey. The trumpet announces his signature theme, accompanied by the brass and strings depicting the sound of the seagulls and the ocean. The magnitude of the vast ocean, the anticipation of catching the fish, memories of a distant waltz, and the exciting fight that ends in triumph. Now, it's time to return home with his valuable possessions. He already won the last and most important fight of his life.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942072 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. Contemporary,Standards,World. Score and parts. 16 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #4767925. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942072). Rush Time was composed for two pianos in 2001 after a commission by the Rivers School in Music in Massachusetts, U.S.A. An exciting and friendly for performers and audiences work by Apostolos Paraskevas. Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. He has received multiple international awards for his compositions and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He is the only guitarist ever to have a major orchestral piece performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Lukas Foss––and the only musician who has performed there in a Grim Reaper outfit. He was the founder and served for 16 years as the artistic director of the International Guitar Congress-Festival of Corfu, Greece.  He is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). After his undergraduate music studies in Volos he pursued advanced studies in classical guitar with Costas Cotsiolis (diploma, 1990) and Leo Brouwer (Havana 1984, 1988), as well as postgraduate studies in composition with Lukas Foss and Theodore Antoniou (DMA in composition, Boston University, 1998). Paraskevas embarked on a successful career as a guitar soloist and contemporary composer, achieving distinctions in both disciplines: Grammy nomination for Chase Dance (Bridge Records, 1999); first prize for Night Wanderings (Lukas Foss Composition Competition, 2000); first prize for Phygein Adynaton (National Composers Conference, 1997); and numerous prestigious commissions, performances, and publications. Following teaching posts at Northeastern and Boston Universities, Paraskevas has taught since 2001 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (professor of composition and classical guitar). His eclectic compositional style arises as an idiosyncratic integration of seemingly conflicting influences – from avant-garde approaches to harmonic structure, form, and timbre, to pop-folk modal and rhythmical concepts – amalgamated into a personal evocative musical language, characterized by rhythmic verve, melodic grace, dramatic (and sometimes unexpectedly humorous) gestures, and ritualistic or theatrical elements. The latter feature has also led Paraskevas to the creation of films, notably the acclaimed I Finally Did It (Gold award, California Film Awards 2010), dealing wittily with Death, a recurring extra-musical theme in his music.   The Groves Dictionary of Music Costas Tsougras

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942058 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Jazz,Opera,World. Score. 10 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #4729017. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942058). This witty and extremely fun work to perform by composer Apostolos Paraskevas was conceived after real events. There is a version for Soprano/tenor and Piano and one for guitar as well. Easy to perform and the text was inspired of the following narrative. I Slaughtered an Orange over the Sink... ...and it just sat there…It didn't say a word, not a sound of anguish, not even when my teeth started to tear apart it's flesh little by little... I knew it was a special orange but I couldn't fathom the magnitude of its character…Even when gentle I took it away from its friends there at the top of the kitchen counter, it looked at me almost with a sense of gratitude. Yes, gratitude.! As if it was saying: Thank you! Thank you for helping me to fulfill the purpose of my life…Since I was a little seed I knew I would serve a higher purpose. My sacrifice will help a human to become a healthier mother, doctor, composer, a better scientist. Yes, I think I felt it said…a better composer as well. ...and there I was, sinking my teeth deep inside its flesh and taking all of what it had to offer. It's life, it's substance, it's gratitude for serving a higher purpose. I slaughtered it over the sink, to avoid any evidence of what had happen there. The remaining outer sell, I placed it on the stove top and lighted up with fire, as my mother use to do, to release the heavenly smell and there it was. Evaporated everywhere! I inhale it, It became totally a part of me. Today, I slaughtered an orange over the sink and I didn’t say thank you!   Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. Score and parts. 122 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #6332819. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942105). A Night with The Aristocrats (a concertante work of plucking, blowing and bowing)Versions for Clarinet/SopranoSax/Violin with Guitar and Strings The guitar part came inspirational first to me as one of my 24 Studies that I wrote few years ago.  For a while though I wondered if a melodic part should be added to this part and form eventually a duo.  A request from my dear colleague Corey Whitehead, for a duo plus strings led me to orchestrate it in this version. The work starts with a meditative introduction before the main part unfolds a dance idea between the two instruments and the string orchestra, almost humoresque which hands over a pensive thought in the soprano sax/clarinet/solo violin that repeats itself almost as an unanswered question. Could please anyone answers?  The Strings do play an important part in terms of balance and the one of an extra third corresponding force. My composition language is sometimes folklorist around my Greek heritage, sometimes around tonal centers, and sometimes simple within a few key notes, evolves around programmatic ideas that I get from every day living.  Apostolos Paraskevas

Elegy for Lukas Foss 1922 and 2009 The two dates that Lukas Foss arrived and departed from this world. The numbers of those years were assigned the few notes that create all the melodic material for my work. Four only notes starting with the F representing the number one. (1=F, 9=C#, 2= F#, 0=D). As the end approaches and while the piano slowly departs the rest of the orchestra rises and protests. Instrumental Duet Cello,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Digital Download SKU: A0.942094 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary,Halloween,World. Score and parts. 29 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #6092705. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942094).  A Sunny Day in Hell - for Guitar and Cello A small introduction from the guitar opens the work which brings the introductory material as a feeling of a sluggish and almost joyful day, an opening with a dark feeling.  Almost like a sunny day in hell, I could say.  This opening material gives its turn to a fast-fierce agitated section in where the guitar mostly plays 16th triplets and the cello introduces an exotic dance-like tune. A limping dance, I must add given the title’s influence.  Almost like a small party in hell.  The following slow section brings up a sad melancholic mood where both instruments share new material with an evocation of a past happy life. The work ends with the main fast material in a variation form. It was my intention to compose a friendly work for performers and audiences.First twist:Performers:  prepare audience for an upcoming performance twist/surprise which will not come (at least not during performance). If or when members of the audience later ask about it, performers should assure them that the twist is still an upcoming great event. Have them re-live the performance as they wonder for years to come...If members of the audience should coerce or threaten you by force, you may reveal the twist: In the unfortunate event that you may later end up in hell, this performance guarantees that you will have at least one Sunny Day in HellOptional Second twist:Performers, could as an extra touch, wear fangs (teeth of a vampire or devil) and after performance could reveal them by either biting the lip or casually smiling or yawning at the audience. No audience preparation is needed for this twist. Although wearing Fangs during the performance, could be a nuisance to some performers, they could give to the work a special extra bite. As a variation, fangs could be wore after the end of the performance. Apostolos Paraskevas, Boston 2008

Silver Sickle Publications #715190. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.1113241). The Chase Dance was commissioned by David Starobin for his Grammy nominated recording Newdance (Bridge 9084). The material of the work derives from a combination of cultural influences (Balkan music) and contemporary techniques that in a combination of the old and the new approaches create a new type of exciting dance. Alternating 5/8, 6/8 and 9/8 meters increase the tension of the piece as well the nerves of the performer as the end approaches. The work ends almost abruptly as chases usually do. It has been recorded by the composer as well in Visions of Azure and by Zoran Dukic in Balkan Muses. Duration 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
