This evocative 1970's work was originally written for the piano.  At the request of classical guitarist John Williams, Myers re-scored it for guitar.  This version was then used for the 1970 film The Walking Stick.  Jazz singer Dame Cleo Laine in 1973 wrote the lyrics He Is Beautiful.  Producer Mike Deeley used it in the 1978 film The Deer Hunter.  This simple air is a wonderful addition to the smaller British Brass Band's repertoire as it works well with a minimum of 9 parts (11 players) up to a full band.  Duration ~ 3:30.

Salut d’Amour, originally titled Liebesgruss (Love’s Greeting), was Edward Elgar’s return gift to his fiancée Caroline Ann Rodgers.  She had just written a poem The Wind at Dawn to which he promptly wrote accompanying music.  Elgar went to Schott Publishing to see if it could be published, for which Schott paid Elgar just over £1 in 1888 (worth just under 200USD in 2022).  Schott decided to change the name to Salut d’Amour as it would sound more romantic and sell more copies, which it did.Considered one of the most romantic pieces, this setting allows several instruments of the band to take part in the original solo line.  A beautiful addition to more than just your Valentine's program.Scored for the smaller British Brass Band with a minimum of 9 parts and up to the full band.  Duration ~ 2:45. 28 pages.

His chart “Chicken Fat� was re-recorded and used in the iPhone 5S television commercials in 2014. “The Peony Bush� has an interesting backstory. In the early 1940s, The Van Wert (north-western Ohio) Woman’s Club would invite “famous� people to speak to the assembly. It is believed that after learning that Van Wert had a huge peony cultivation festival running since the early 1900s, Meredith wrote this song. One of the first recordings was in 1949 by Danny Kaye; the orchestration was for winds, brass, percussion, and piano. This arrangement for brass band gives your 1st baritone player a chance to shine as the tender ballad singer Danny Kaye and gives your principal cornet player the opportunity to counter with the gravellier voice sounds of Louis Armstrong. The Yellow Ribbon representing a person's test or trial while they wait for their loved ones to return home has been around for over 400 years. It was prevalent during the English Civil War during the mid-1600s and again by the US Calvary in the late 1800s. The 1972 chart Tie A Yellow Ribbon by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown may have been influenced by the older She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, first copyrighted in 1917 by George Norton. Or maybe the 1949 John Wayne movie by the same title. The impact of Tony Orlando's cover of Tie A Yellow Ribbon pushed the symbolism into the public eye after its release in 1973, especially in light of Vietnam and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Today it represents various support groups in different countries; from AIDS to Cancer, to Suicide Prevention, and supporting troops, with a major resurgence in use during the War in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11. This popular love song, Moon River written by Henry Mancini for Audrey Hepburn, was initially not an easy task when scoring for the 1962 film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s�. Hepburn was not a trained vocalist, and Paramount wanted to overdub the song. Mancini had to write something that would be comfortable for her range. A month and a half later, he began. Then one-half hour later, the music was finished. Then came the challenge of finding a lyricist. Mancini reached out to Johnny Mercer. And Moon River was born. This arrangement for Brass Quintet (with optional percussion) is a wonderful selection for concerts or weddings. Brass Band instrumentation has been included (Eb Horn, Bb Trombone, and Eb Bass).
