The teenage girl Libertaria escapes from the GenTech factory to team up with her addict father. Together they overthrow evil geneticists in with a rag tag cyborg army in this dark musical masterpiece.

Dubbed Wagner 2.0 by the Palm Beach Arts Paper, international award-winning Cuban American composer and filmmaker Sabrina Peña Young creates groundbreaking works  like the animated virtual opera Libertaria and her animated film Spiritus, which premiered at the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival. In 2014 Young gave a TED Talk on the importance of online artistic collaboration at TEDxBuffalo. Inspired by science fiction, electroacoustic music, and graphic novels, Young's works have been presented at the Beijing Conservatory, Art Basil Miami, Turkey's Cinema for Peace, Opera America NYC, Art Miami, Animasyros in Greece, NPR Morning Edition, and festivals on 5 continents. In 2018 Young received the prestigious Cintas Foundation Brandon Fradd Composer Fellowship. The Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival awarded Young the Lois Weber Filmmaker Award in 2019. Young remains very active in the local Western New York film community. Her Filmmaker Boot Camp produces films like Welcome to Space Force and The Cure. What is American Classical music? This CD contains Mark O'Connor's latest orchestral works: Americana Symphony Variations on Appalachia Waltz(2006) and Concerto No. 6 Old Brass (2003). Sony Classical//BMG label director Gilbert Hetherwick explains; Dvorak and Copland painted symphonic landscapes using melodies inspired by the Americana tradition, and Mark O'Connor actually comes from that tradition itself. He's lived it every day of his life. And you hear it in every note of his Americana Symphony. For the majority of his solo career, O'Connor has dedicated himself to composing for orchestra: he has written six full-length concertos, several orchestral suites and string orchestra compositions, and most recently his first Symphony.

David Wallace, Juilliard School faculty member and Senior Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic, comments on the overall characteristics of O'Connor's music: The Americana Symphony combines historical narrative with classical and folk variation principles. The Symphony contains instrumental virtuosity, rhythmic drive, poignant lyricism, and probing counterpoint. With the Americana Symphony, Mark O'Connor provides his answer to a question that has intrigued U. S. composers since the debut of Dvorak's New World Symphony in 1892: How do you write the great American Symphony?

William Intrilligator, artistic director of the Dubuque Symphony, conducted one of the first performances of the Americana Symphony: Very few pieces of new music have the same emotional and visceral effect as this Symphony, he writes. It has such power and beauty, and these traits are expressed in original ways that are pure O'Connor and truly American.

Marin Alsop, artistic director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and this recording's conductor of the Americana Symphony, calls the Symphony simply A hit!

Composed by Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934). Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Romantic Period,Wedding. 6 pages. Cypress Publishing #1037607. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1458677).

Sir Edward Elgar’s Variations on an Original Theme, commonly known as Enigma Variations, may be the most wonderful musical tribute to friendship ever composed. Each of the fourteen variations is headed with initials or a code name of a family member or friend, with the last one being Elgar himself.

The best known variation is the ninth, entitled Nimrod. It represents Augustus Jaeger, Elgar’s close friend and editor at his publisher Novello & Company. In the Bible, Nimrod is referred to as “the mighty hunter”, thus identifying with Jaeger (Jäger), meaning “hunter” in German. The stately and serene variation expresses the depth of the composer’s feelings for his friend, and is often performed separately on solemn occasions. This arrangement is based on the original orchestral score, and Elgar’s own piano reduction, both published by Novello in 1899. Technically it is not too difficult, though with some double stopping to complete the harmonies and for fullness of sound.

CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites.

The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.

Composed by Sir Edward Elgar (1899). Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Classical,Romantic Period. 16 pages. BJE Music #6021517. Published by BJE Music (A0.750990).

Edward Elgar composed his Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, popularly known as the Enigma Variations, between October 1898 and February 1899. It is an orchestral work comprising fourteen variations on an original theme. Nimrod (Adagio) was the 9th variation. The name of this variation refers to Augustus J. Jaeger, who was employed as a music editor by the London publisher Novello & Co. He was a close friend of Elgar's, giving him useful advice but also severe criticism, something Elgar greatly appreciated. Elgar later related how Jaeger had encouraged him as an artist and had stimulated him to continue composing despite setbacks. Nimrod is described in the Old Testament as a mighty hunter before the Lord, Jäger being German for hunter.

It has been arranged here in the lower key of Eb for a Saxophone Septet. Parts for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass Saxophone.

Notes from the Composer: Theme & Ten Variations was the result of my curiosity as a composer. It was self-assigned in an effort to deepen my own understanding of musical connectivity. There is a lot of math and manipulation in this composition, making it a good choice for analysis. However, musical communication is far more complicated than connectivity.

Each short says something in particular to the performer. I might name the theme Less is more. The first variation communicates a daring sense of risk. And so on. Of course, this is delightfully subjective! Some of these variations are technical beasts. Find your own tempos as you delve into this work. Musical ownership and self-discovery are the ultimate goals.

*Includes the flute part on its own at the end of the file*
This is a set of theme and variations in C minor (although it ends in C major) for flute and piano.
The theme is a simple, melancholy melody with the first three variations on it being in C minor (and it is worth noting that the piano accompaniment is just chords for these first three variations), the fourth variation in Eb major while the fifth is the finale which includes numerous diversions from the theme and many contrasting passages of rich material, although the theme does appear in a fugato section and in another short, jig-like variation section, before it is played a couple of times near the end in the form of triumphant returns.
Many passages are of an advanced level, particularly towards the end.
