Tomorrow's Hopes and New Horizons is a grade 3 concert band piece that captures both the excitement and the
hesitancy of growing and taking on new challenges. The theme and variations suggest life's varied paths. Similarly,
throughout the piece the different harmonies of the main theme's phrase endings remind us of our wide-ranging
choices as we grow. The piece is meant to
be performed with full concert band. However, the arrangement's flexible scoring provides the most performing
opportunities for smaller ensembles of all sizes and configurations, as long as all four voices are included.
Furthermore, the arrangement's solo and soli passages provide varied sound textures in the context of this
flexible scoring. The piece's ample yet judiciously placed cues allow instrument combinations other than those
written. Directors may use discretion in assigning solo passages as solos, as section solis, or either as solos or

This is a wonderful old comedy song.
I have put it into the key that Tessie O'Shea sings it (Ab major)
I have put in the first verse that Tessie sings, plus the spoken part. I have changed some of the words of the spoken part to update them.
I have then constructed a third verse from other verses that Le Clerq wrote. To sing it exactly like Tessie please repeat first verse.

And I feel that Fairy Snowdrop isn't wanted now.

There's No Business Like Show Business is an Irving Berlin song, written for the 1946 musical Annie Get Your Gun and orchestrated by Ted Royal. The song, a slightly tongue-in-cheek salute to the glamour and excitement of a life in show business, is sung in the musical by members of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in an attempt to persuade Annie Oakley to join the production. It is reprised three times in the musical but for the purposes of the show that I made this arrangement for only 2 verses were required... a third verse could easily be added of course with appropriate lyrics.

The song is also featured in the 1954 movie of the same name, where it is notably sung by Ethel Merman as the main musical number. The movie, directed by Walter Lang, is essentially a catalog of various Berlin's pieces, in the same way that Singin' in the Rain-which starred Donald O'Connor as well-was a collection of Arthur Freed songs. There was also a disco version of the song made during the 1970s, with Merman reprising her singing role in The Ethel Merman Disco Album. The song became one of Ethel Merman's standards and was often performed by her at concerts and on television.

This is a simple arrangement of the song playable by all levels of ensemble

Composer's Notes:

In college, Kelly Morse knew that I often created melodies by using the letters of a person's name (continuing the letters of the alphabet up the scale past the letter g), and he asked me to play the theme that would be created by using the letters of HIS name; at the time, I was a bit stumped to make it sound interesting: d-e-e-e-d-f-a-d-e-e

Years later, he reminded me that he'd been disappointed that his name didn't make for a good melody -- and I decided that I had to be a good enough composer to make it work.

Here is the result.
